Background / History
Megatron originated as D-16, a special Cybertronian cultivated in a Quintesson laboratory. The Quintessons implanted him with combat and slaughter experience from birth, and the berserk energy used in protoform cultivation contributed to his violent nature. After the Quintessons were driven from Cybertron, surviving special Cybertronians were enslaved; D-16 was eventually sold to a gladiatorial arena and forced to fight Terrorcons and Predacons for noble amusement. 250 756
D-16 proved exceptionally strong and tenacious, maturing in under two years and surpassing other protoforms of his batch. After accumulating victories in the arena, he abandoned his humiliating designation and named himself Megatron. 250 251
The Fallen discovered Megatron while he was weak, becoming his teacher and granting him power and combat techniques through methods Megatron regarded as torture. Megatron later realized that The Fallen had shaped his fate for centuries, using him against the Primus Royal Family and Sentinel Prime; this manipulation became a source of both fear and hatred. 251 702
Sentinel Prime later elevated Megatron from gladiator slave to a revolutionary hero and ultimately Cybertron's military commander, intending to use him against the Elder Council and corrupt aristocracy. Once Sentinel Prime secured power, Megatron turned against his patron, gathered dissatisfied civilians and soldiers, and established the Decepticon Corps through Quintesson conversion factories. 794 811 913
Megatron led the Decepticons through the Cybertronian Civil Wars. During the Second Civil War, he secretly accepted Sentinel Prime's proposal to betray the Autobots in exchange for Cybertron, the destruction of the Autobot faction, and access to secrets including Space Bridge technology. The Decepticons captured Iacon and drove the surviving Autobots to Cybertron's moons. 250 701 702
After the war, Megatron personally led over a hundred elite warriors aboard the Nemesis to Earth in pursuit of the AllSpark. He intended to use its power to transform Earth's machines into Decepticons, threatening both Earth and the wider universe. 250 72
Appearance
At his peak, Megatron was an enormous mechanical warrior over ten meters tall and weighing more than one hundred tons. His body was constructed largely from Ultra-Might Steel Alloy, an exceptionally hard, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant material. 87
- His body was heavily weaponized and comparable in size to Optimus Prime's. 86
- He could assume a large aerial alternate form capable of supersonic flight. 78 86
- Following his apparent death, he survived in severely damaged condition; by later events, only his head remained within a life-support device or incubation tank. 701 800
Personality
Megatron is a domineering tyrant who rules through military strength, fear, and personal authority. Even enemies acknowledge his charisma and competence as a commander, while his subordinates recognize that challenges to his authority provoke extreme retaliation. 689 701
His background as a Quintesson experiment, slave, and gladiator shaped his ruthless worldview. He is willing to sacrifice allies, exploit enemies, and make temporary bargains with rivals when doing so advances his goals. His deal with Sentinel Prime and his planned exploitation of Earth demonstrate a readiness to treat entire populations as resources. 250 755
Despite his arrogance, Megatron does not blindly dismiss useful subordinates. He repeatedly tolerated Starscream's rebellions because of Starscream's combat ability, scientific knowledge, and value to the Decepticon Corps. 37 848
Megatron deeply resents being controlled. His realization that The Fallen had manipulated his life drove his desire to destroy his former teacher, even while he continued pursuing power over Cybertron and Earth. 702 757
