Background / History

Su Yuntao travels to remote villages on Spirit Hall’s behalf to awaken martial souls for commoner children. By the time he reaches Holy Soul Village, he has already made fruitless visits to six villages and is eager for the ceremony to finish. He leads eight children into the village’s Spirit Hall branch and conducts the awakening using a hexagram stone formation. 2

To save time, Su Yuntao orders Ao Yin and Tang San—the final two children—to awaken simultaneously. The resulting surge of soul power shatters the formation stones and damages the hall; Su Yuntao uses his martial soul to protect himself and worries that the children may have been harmed. 3

He initially misjudges Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass as useless and Ao Yin’s Coiling Dragon Staff as a weakened mutated iron staff. However, Tang San’s test reveals rank-nine innate soul power, while Ao Yin’s test crystal explodes under the pressure of his innate full soul power. 3 4

Recognizing Ao Yin’s potential, Su Yuntao offers him admission to Spirit Hall Academy. Ao Yin declines, but Su Yuntao leaves him with a Spirit Hall Academy token that can grant temporary access to the Hunting Soul Forest. 4 5 21

Su Yuntao is a young man who wears fitted snow-white clothing. He carries himself with an air of arrogance and weariness during his village assignments. 2

Personality

Su Yuntao is initially impatient and blunt, especially after repeatedly finding children without soul power. He dismisses common martial souls such as Blue Silver Grass, sickles, and hoes as useless, and he has little expectation for Ao Yin and Tang San before their awakening. 2 3

Despite his poor initial assessments, he reacts with genuine excitement upon discovering exceptional talent. Ao Yin’s innate full soul power makes Su Yuntao abandon his usual composure and personally urge him to join Spirit Hall Academy, partly because discovering such a prodigy could advance his own position within Spirit Hall. 4
