Big Bamboo Peak was once regarded as the weakest branch of Azure Cloud Sect, with its disciples looked down upon by the other six lineages. Its fortunes changed after Luo Yunji revised the Taiji Mystic Purity Dao, allowing its disciples to advance rapidly and develop spiritual-energy attributes suited to their personal cultivation paths 243 594.

After several disciples descended the mountain to seek experience and magical treasures, the branch’s back mountain became its permanent residence. Formal visitors continued to be received on the front mountain, while the back-mountain cave dwelling became a more secluded base known only in detail to a few trusted people from Small Bamboo Peak 190.

The group’s strength became publicly evident at the Seven Peaks Martial Arts Tournament. Big Bamboo Peak claimed three of the top-eight places, while its disciples’ unusual movement arts, weapons, and cultivation levels drew the attention of the other branch heads 249. Daoxuan later used the improved Big Bamboo Peak version of the Taiji Mystic Purity Dao to answer doubts surrounding the branch’s performance 251.

The branch subsequently became a major force in Azure Cloud Sect’s conflicts with the Demon Sect. Its disciples fought at Liubo Mountain, challenged the Ghost King alongside Tian Buyi and Su Ru, and later gained notoriety after six master and disciples nearly overturned the Myriad Poison Sect 331 701. During later expeditions, Big Bamboo Peak established cultivation sites beyond Azure Cloud Mountain. Big Bamboo Peak’s back-mountain residence is concealed by a protective formation and contains an unexpectedly bright, elaborate cave complex rather than a bare cavern 77 224.
