Ghost King leads the Ghost King Sect, one of the major Demon Sect forces. He carries resentment over the sect's past humiliation and is determined not to allow its influence to diminish under his leadership. During an early confrontation with the disciples of Big Bamboo Peak, he displays a decisive and overwhelming cultivation advantage, though their coordinated close-quarters tactics and unusual techniques force him to take them seriously 215 216.

He becomes especially interested in Zhang Xiaofan after recognizing the Fire Poker as a blood-refined fusion of the Bloodthirsty Orb and Soul Eater. Rather than trying to seize an artifact that only Zhang can use, Ghost King explains its origins, admires Zhang's willingness to wield it, and invites him to join the Ghost King Sect 273 274.

At Liubo Mountain, Ghost King convenes Demon Sect forces to hunt the Kui Ox. He uses the Dragon-Subduing Tripod and the Dragon-Trapping Gate formation to imprison the beast, while secretly using the other Demon Sect elders and their disciples to advance his own objective 325 326. World-Ending Calamity

When the Ghost King Sect headquarters transforms and its members become Strange Objects, Ghost King appears in a Gray Mist–shrouded state of vastly increased power.
