Background / History

The Cloud Mist Sect was a powerful mountain sect in the Jia Ma Empire, renowned as a cultivation holy land and feared by smaller forces such as the Xiao Clan. Its prominence rested on its large body of disciples, established leadership, and centuries of accumulated resources. Nalan Yanran was accepted as a disciple of Sect Master Yun Yun and designated as the sect’s successor. 5 6 17

The sect became embroiled with the Xiao Clan when Yun Yun approved Nalan Yanran’s visit to annul her engagement with Xiao Yan. Elder Ge Ye accompanied Nalan Yanran to Wutan City, where the delegation’s conduct and subsequent humiliation by Xiao Tian damaged the sect’s prestige. 5 6 7 10

First Elder Yun Leng later arranged an attempted capture of Xiao Yan through a masked Cloud Mist Sect Dou King and the Jia Lie Clan. The operation failed; the sect’s elder was killed, the Jia Lie Clan was exterminated, and evidence of Yun Leng’s involvement gave Xiao Tian grounds to demand retribution. 12 14 15 16 20

Xiao Tian and Xiao Yan stormed the sect’s mountain headquarters to confront Yun Leng. The Cloud Mist Sect mobilized its elders, disciples, and defensive formations, but suffered escalating losses. Yun Leng was killed, Yun Yun was defeated while attempting to protect the sect, and Yun Shan emerged from seclusion to lead its defense. 18 19 20 21 23

Yun Shan used a Breakthrough Pill to advance to Dou Zong in a final attempt to save the sect. Despite this, Xiao Tian destroyed the sect’s formations, flattened its mountain structures, and killed Yun Shan. The Cloud Mist Sect was left a ruined battlefield with countless disciples dead; afterward, Xiao Tian emptied its treasury of pills, techniques, weapons, and other resources. 23 24 27 28 30 31

Headquarters

The Cloud Mist Sect stood atop a mountain range perpetually surrounded by clouds and mist. A thin haze covered the mountain, while sunlight passing through the clouds created golden shafts of light. Its summit contained a large plaza where disciples practiced the sect’s sword techniques, as well as floating mountains, council halls, back-mountain cultivation grounds, and a treasure vault concealed beneath the sect’s defenses. 9 17 21 23 30 31

Sect-Protecting Formations

The sect possessed large-scale defensive formations powered by the combined Dou Qi of its members.

• Grand defensive formation — Activated when Xiao Tian defeated Yun Leng and four Dou King elders. Tens of thousands of disciples channeled their Dou Qi to create a barrier around the entire sect. 18
• Cloud Smoke Sun-Covering Formation — Activated under Yun Shan’s direction during the sect’s final defense. Elders, stewards, disciples, and servants poured their strength into it, creating a sea of clouds around the sect. 23

Annulment of the Xiao Yan–Nalan Yanran Engagement

The sect dispatched Ge Ye and Nalan Yanran to the Xiao Clan with Yun Yun’s approval to end Nalan Yanran’s engagement to Xiao Yan. The sect’s authority was invoked as leverage, but Xiao Tian openly rejected its intimidation and forced the visitors into submission. 5 6 7

Plot Against Xiao Yan

Seeking to restore the sect’s dignity, Yun Leng sent a masked Dou King to enlist the Jia Lie Clan in an operation to capture Xiao Yan. The sect promised protection and support to the Jia Lie Clan, but the plot was exposed after Xiao Tian killed the attackers. 12 14 15 16

Siege and Destruction

Xiao Tian arrived at the sect to demand accountability for the assassination attempt. Yun Leng denied involvement, provoking a battle that escalated from the defeat of the sect’s Dou King elders to the activation of its grand formations. 17 18 19

Yun Yun’s return and Yun Shan’s emergence from seclusion delayed the sect’s collapse but did not prevent it. Yun Shan’s Dou Zong breakthrough also failed, and Xiao Tian ultimately annihilated the headquarters, killed Yun Shan, and declared that the Cloud Mist Sect would cease to exist. 19 21 23 24 27 29

Aftermath

Although the sect was destroyed, Yun Yun and Nalan Yanran survived. Yun Yun departed the Jia Ma Empire with Nalan Yanran, while Xiao Tian claimed the sect’s remaining treasury to strengthen himself and the Xiao Clan. 28 30 31
