Xiao Yan is the younger son of Xiao Zhan and younger brother of Xiao Tian. His failed battle-qi test leaves him branded a “waste” and subjected to the clan’s disappointment, but Xiao Tian’s return gives him a powerful source of support 2.

He discovers that Medicine Elder is an alchemist and learns that the elder had been absorbing his Dou Qi. After Xiao Tian compels Medicine Elder to compensate him, Xiao Yan selects the black-ranked Burning Mantra instead of an Earth-tier fire-attribute method; his Dou Qi condenses and he can cultivate again 4.
