Background / History

Xiao Xuan granted the Ancient Clan two Heavenly Tomb entry slots in exchange for protecting the Xiao Clan and guiding any Xiao Clan Dou Sect into the tomb to receive its inheritance. The Ancient Clan retained the privilege for thousands of years but failed to uphold its protective obligation after the Xiao Clan declined. Some of its members also sought the Xiao Clan’s Tuoshe Ancient Emperor Jade. 37

The clan later negotiated for the jade through Xiao Xun'er. In exchange, it supplied Xiao Tian with medicinal materials, cultivation resources, Dou Skills, weapons, and the corpse of a three-star Dou Saint; Xiao Tian then surrendered the jade. 38 63

Its treatment of the Xiao Clan remained hostile among many members. The Black Submerged Army attempted to remove Xiao Xun'er from Jia Nan Academy, while deputy commander Ling Quan openly demeaned Xiao Yan and the diminished Xiao Clan. Xiao Tian killed Ling Quan after he invoked the Ancient Clan as a threat. 74 75

At Xiao Xun'er's coming-of-age ceremony, the clan's commanders, elders, and younger generation repeatedly provoked Xiao Tian and Xiao Yan. Their challengers—including Yang Hao and Gu Yao—were defeated with ease, exposing the clan's continued contempt for the Xiao Clan and its inability to assess Xiao Tian's strength. 164 165

After the Heavenly Tomb expedition, Xiao Tian and the returned soul of Xiao Xuan confronted Gu Yuan over the Ancient Clan's broken promise. Faced with Xiao Tian's power, the clan agreed to provide compensation and accept conditions imposed for its past conduct. 176 179 180

Black Submerged Army

The Black Submerged Army serves as an armed force of the Ancient Clan. It was deployed to retrieve Xiao Xun'er from Jia Nan Academy under Ling Quan, and later mobilized against Xiao Tian upon his arrival in Ancient Sacred City. 74 164

• The army recognizes Xiao Xun'er's authority; Ling Quan halted its attack on Xiao Yan when she intervened. 75
