Background / History
Before Konoha’s founding, the Uchiha were a major Warring States-era clan and longstanding enemies of the Senju. Their territory stood across the Naka River from the Senju lands, making its banks a recurring battlefield between the two clans. 153
According to Great Elder Uchiha Zong, an earlier generation of clan leaders turned the Mangekyō wielder Uchiha Hikari into a weapon after she awakened Yachihoko. They renamed her “Uchiha Nameless,” implanted additional Mangekyō techniques into her eyes, and used her against rival clans. The Senju and Sarutobi Clans eventually located and sealed her away. 144
The Uchiha and Senju jointly led Konoha’s founding alongside other ninja clans. After Hashirama Senju’s death, Tobirama Senju placed the Hidden Leaf Police Force under Uchiha control; Fugaku later argued that this arrangement isolated the clan and made other villagers suspicious of its authority. 171 172
The clan suffered a near generational gap after former clan head Uchiha Kagami disappeared on a secret mission and many members of his generation died or vanished during village assignments. Great Elder Zong and Clan Head Uchiha Xuan stabilized the clan until its strength recovered. 13
Uchiha Yin Jie’s recovery from the Land of Rain brought the clan an exceptional new prodigy. The clan formally accepted him despite being unable to identify his exact bloodline connection, as his awakened Sharingan confirmed his Uchiha heritage. 10 11 14
Under Fugaku’s leadership, the clan later began reforms intended to end its isolation: the Police Force opened recruitment to civilian shinobi and members of other clans, while eight Uchiha were assigned to two elite Root squads. 172 192
Territory and Symbols
The Uchiha Clan District was originally located in central Konoha rather than on the village outskirts. It contained an enormous red torii gate, a broad central plaza, interconnected traditional villas, and maple trees whose autumn leaves turned the district scarlet. 13
- Clan crest: A fan-shaped emblem displayed on clan clothing and beneath the district’s eaves. 10 13
- Naka Shrine: Traditional site for clan meetings; a false summons to the shrine was used by White Zetsu posing as Uchiha Arashi. 152 154
- Empty Zone: Northeastern Land of Fire supply area used for Uchiha ninja tools and the habitat of the allied Ninja Cat Clan. 17
- Cat Granny: The clan’s principal intelligence source and a supplier of ninja tools and strategic reserves. 17 152
Culture
The Uchiha are described as a clan that loves deeply while revering power above all else. The Sharingan is regarded as the central symbol of both their bloodline and strength. 6
Most adult clansmen appear cold, proud, and emotionally restrained, often struggling to communicate their feelings. This outward aloofness has contributed to misunderstandings with other Konoha residents. 10 11
In contrast, Uchiha children receive exceptional care and attention. The clan views children as essential to preserving its bloodline, particularly because the Sharingan is difficult to awaken. 10
The clan is highly responsive to strength: Fugaku’s reforms succeeded in part because the clansmen respected his overwhelming power and accepted the authority of a strong leader. 172

| Elite Root Squads | Eight Uchiha shinobi recruited by Yin Jie | Two four-person squads were formed to circumvent restrictions on Uchiha battlefield deployment. 172 192 |
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Uchiha Clan’s hereditary dōjutsu is the Sharingan. Its awakening confirms Uchiha bloodline, while its tomoe progression determines a user’s combat potential and ocular power. 6 11 64
- Enhances perception, allowing users to observe chakra flow and improve chakra control. 192
- Supports powerful genjutsu; traces of Sharingan genjutsu can be identified within a victim’s brain. 73
- Compensates for the targeting weakness of high-speed techniques such as Chidori. 50
- Three-tomoe users are regarded as the clan’s strongest ordinary combatants; elite members can contend with high-level jonin. 9 56
- The Sharingan’s ominous aura can visibly alter an Uchiha’s demeanor when activated. 11
Mangekyō Sharingan
The Mangekyō Sharingan is a legendary evolution associated with extreme grief, loss, and powerful obsession. Its use carries a burden, and Uchiha Zong warns against overuse. 138 143
| User | Documented Mangekyō Ability | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uchiha Fugaku | Amaterasu | Awakened during the battle against Kakuzu after witnessing Yasashiro’s apparent death; produced black flames on Kakuzu’s body. 138 |
| Uchiha Yin Jie | Yachihoko; Susanoo | Awakened alongside Fugaku. His left-eye Yachihoko resonated with Hikari’s ocular power. 138 143 150 |
| Uchiha Hikari | Yachihoko in both eyes | Her left eye can use marks to transmit or absorb chakra, erase memories, and control targets; her right eye can transplant and enhance other Mangekyō techniques. 144 150 |
Izanagi
Izanagi is a sealed Uchiha forbidden ocular technique that records the user’s state and converts harmful events—including death—into illusion for its duration. 141
- Can restore the user to the state recorded before activation. 141
- Costs the Sharingan used to cast it; the eye loses its light after the technique ends. 141
- Was sealed after historical abuse during internal Uchiha conflict. 141
- Only Uchiha at elite jonin level or above are permitted to learn it. 141
- Uchiha Yasashiro used Izanagi to survive Kakuzu’s Final Shot, sacrificing one Sharingan. 141
Fire and Lightning Release
Uchiha shinobi commonly possess Fire and Lightning chakra affinities, making these natures central to the clan’s combat style. 10
- Fire Release: Techniques such as Great Fireball, Phoenix Sage Fire, Dragon Fire, and Fugaku’s Majestic Destroyer Flame are associated with Uchiha combat. 17 134
- Lightning Release: Chidori: Developed by Yin Jie with Fugaku’s assistance and shared with qualified clansmen. 51
- Chidori combat squads: The clan organized squads around Chidori after many jonin and Lightning-nature chunin mastered the technique. 56
- Advanced Chidori forms: Fugaku used Chidori Current and Chidori Sharp Spear against Kakuzu. 135
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ninja tools from the Empty Zone — Strategic supplies acquired through Cat Granny and the Ninja Cat Clan network. 17 152
- Preserved Three-Tomoe Sharingan — Spare eyes maintained by branches of the clan for transplantation after ocular loss. 141 152
- Sword of Totsuka — Lost sacred Uchiha artifact once held by a clan head who led the clan to supremacy over the Senju. 143
- Yata Mirror — Lost sacred artifact associated with the Sword of Totsuka in clan records. 143
Relationships
- Konohagakure — Founding partner and home village, though the clan’s political relationship with Konoha has been strained by surveillance, isolation, and distrust. 12 171 172
- Senju Clan — Historical rival and co-founder of Konoha; the two clans fought repeatedly during the Warring States era. 153 237
- Sarutobi Clan — Allied with the Senju in the operation that sealed Uchiha Hikari. 144
- Ninja Cat Clan — Longstanding summoning and intelligence partner that has cooperated with the Uchiha for generations. 10 17
- Root — Initially a source of political suspicion and attempted control over Uchiha shinobi; later, Yin Jie placed eight clan members in elite Root squads. 16 172 192
- Kaguya Clan — An old rival; the Uchiha drove the Kaguya into the sea during the Warring States era. 57
Story Role / Major Arcs
Recovery of Yin Jie
Uchiha Yasashiro discovered Yin Jie after his Sharingan awakened in the Land of Rain. Yasashiro informed the clan through the Ninja Cat Clan, and Fugaku personally traveled to retrieve and confirm the child’s Uchiha lineage. 5 10 11
Yin Jie was formally registered as an Uchiha and welcomed into the clan district. Zong and Xuan immediately recognized his unprecedented talent, as he had awakened a three-tomoe Sharingan at six years old. 13 14
Chidori Militarization
After Yin Jie and Fugaku created Lightning Release: Chidori, qualified Uchiha were trained in the technique. The resulting Chidori squads became a key element of the clan’s preparations for future war. 51 56
Battle Against Kakuzu
Fugaku, Yasashiro, En, Chen, Itachi, and Shisui fought Kakuzu in the Land of Rain using coordinated Chidori assaults. Yasashiro’s apparent death triggered Fugaku and Yin Jie’s Mangekyō awakenings, though Yasashiro later survived through Izanagi. 131 132 138 141
Return of Uchiha Hikari
Yin Jie followed the resonance of his Yachihoko to a hidden seal, broke it with Susanoo, and recovered Uchiha Hikari. Her history as the clan’s former weapon was later revealed to the Uchiha leadership, and she was formally introduced to the clan. 145 162
Fugaku’s Reforms
Fugaku publicly acknowledged both Konoha’s discriminatory policies and the clan’s own isolationism. He then opened the Police Force to outsiders and supported Yin Jie’s proposal to send Uchiha squads into Root, beginning a top-down transformation of the clan. 171 172
