Royal Pilot Fizzlank ultimately decided to try again. The missiles had clearly worked fine during the previous strafing run, so the Gnomeregan Air Force fired another barrage at the Nether Dragons.

But just as before, the missiles passed through the Nether Dragons' bodies, then lost gravity. Anti-air missiles were forcibly turned into bomber payloads, plunging toward Amber Ledge below and setting off a broad swath of explosions.

"I see!" Rend, watching from afar, struck his left palm with his clenched right fist. He understood the reason.

He had originally sent the Nether Dragons into battle merely to serve as shields and hold back the Gnomeregan Air Force. Yet the Nether Dragons' traits completely countered the Gnomeregan Air Force's gnomish aircraft.

Whether gnomish aircraft or goblin aircraft, their attacks generally consisted of aerial machine-gun strafing or missile strikes.

Aerial machine-gun fire was mediocre in power; even the scales of mutated Nether Dragon subspecies could withstand it. Missile attacks, meanwhile, carried enough destructive force to threaten dragons, but the Nether Dragons' racial talent allowed them to slip into the void at any time, just like the Void Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas.

Before a missile struck, a Nether Dragon shifted its body into the void. Though it could still be seen, it had actually entered another dimension, so the missile naturally passed straight through. When a Nether Dragon entered the void, it created a small patch of nothingness where it had been. Like the void itself, that space had no gravity, so the missiles naturally stalled and went inert.

Once that small patch of nothingness vanished, the missiles were drawn down by Azeroth's gravity, automatically falling. That was how this scene came about.
