Savior of the Taunka

After the battle at Amber Ledge ended, Coldarra, where the Nexus was located, was temporarily out of danger. Over in Dragonblight, Blue Dragon Prince Arygos was keeping things under control, so no problems would arise anytime soon.

On the Warsong Offensive's side, their main targets were the Scourge forces of En'Kilah and the two floating Scourge cities.

Northrend had a native race known as the Taunka. They were distant relatives of the Tauren, formidable fighters, and followers of shamanic teachings as well.

In the future, Garrosh would bring the Taunka into the Horde. Though their population had dwindled after the Scourge's ravages, they still maintained settlements throughout Northrend. Strong Taunka warriors could become a source of strength for the Horde expeditionary force.

Howling Fjord also had a Taunka village: the Ashen Totem Clan of Winterhoof Camp.

However, Winterhoof Camp lay at the central junction between Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills.

Now, the Blackrock Expeditionary Force was firmly trapped in the southwestern region of Howling Fjord by the Vrykul of Utgarde Keep. They had no way to establish contact with Winterhoof Camp in the interior.

In the Horde's original quest line, contact with Winterhoof Camp had only been made because Nanik, a Farstrider from Winterhoof Camp, had gone to Giant's Run to seek help from a Forsaken outpost.

Given the current situation in Howling Fjord, the Forsaken had only just established Revenge Harbor and were fighting the Alliance Fourth Legion's navy. They had yet to establish an outpost at Giant's Run.

Furthermore, the Vrykul who had not yet been summoned away by Arthas, the Lich King, had forces far beyond anything in the original history. Whether Nanik, the Taunka Farstrider, could even survive long enough to seek aid was a major question.
