When Rend returned to Dragonblight once more, he found that the situation between the formerly opposing Blue Dragonflight and Red Dragonflight had changed again. Two new forces had joined the fray.

The floating citadel Naxxramas of the Grand Lich Kel'Thuzad, and Acherus: The Ebon Hold of the Knights of the Ebon Blade—what had once been a standoff between two floating citadels had become four.

Yet vaguely, Acherus: The Ebon Hold seemed to have chosen to stand with Eldre'Thalas.

Naxxramas and Dalaran, meanwhile, could never possibly cooperate.

The battle between the four floating citadels, fought in this land where dragons slept, seemed to proclaim to the world that the age of mortal races was about to arrive. The Dragon Aspects were no longer so untouchably exalted.

Archmage Khadgar had awakened. Grand Magistrix Elisande's time magic had aged him further, but it had also increased his strength.

The Grand Lich Kel'Thuzad led Naxxramas in an attack on Dalaran. The frost-wielding Grand Lich Kel'Thuzad and Jaina Proudmoore, senior and junior disciples of the same master, engaged in a fierce battle.

Without all sorts of protagonist's blessings, Jaina Proudmoore truly was no match for the Grand Lich Kel'Thuzad. But at the critical moment, Archmage Khadgar's appearance changed the course of the battle. He aided Jaina in repelling Naxxramas's attack, and even wounded Kel'Thuzad.

Jaina Proudmoore had originally invited Khadgar to continue serving as an Archmage on the Council of Six of the Dalaran Kirin Tor, but Khadgar refused.

During the time Khadgar had been unconscious, he had come to understand many things. Time magic had not only aged his body; it had also allowed his mind to experience much, helping him see many things clearly.
