After receiving aid from the Alliance's Valiance Expedition and the Horde's Warsong Offensive, the Ashen Verdict achieved a phased victory in the battle to attack the Scourge city.

They truly established a new stronghold deep within Icecrown Glacier that was easy to defend and difficult to assault: Crusaders' Pinnacle. Although the Ashen Verdict aspired to cleanse the Scourge city and turn it into a holy city, the Scourge plague contamination there was far too severe to purify bit by bit, so they settled for the next best option.

Crusaders' Pinnacle had two routes, east and west. The eastern road was a clear path for soldiers and adventurers from Argent Vanguard to bypass the Scourge city, while the western road led to The Broken Front.

The Broken Front lay between two Scourge fortifications: Ironwall Dam and Mord'rethar: The Death Gate.

The Scourge had turned Icecrown Glacier into a steel fortress, using ramparts forged from Saronite to separate its various regions.

Although they had entered Icecrown Glacier, the Ashen Verdict, the Valiance Expedition, and the Warsong Offensive still had to break through Mord'rethar: The Death Gate, Aldur'thar: The Desolation Gate, and Corp'rethar: The Horror Gate before they could attack their final destination—the fortress of Arthas, the Lich King: Icecrown Citadel.

The Alliance's Valiance Expedition, the Horde's Warsong Offensive, and the Scourge forces waged a fierce melee across the vast expanse of The Broken Front. All three sides were enemies, locked in relentless battle.

General Dranosh Saurfang and Highlord Bolvar Fordragon also fought fiercely at The Broken Front. One was a rising young general of the Horde, the other a long-renowned highlord of Stormwind. After several clashes, neither had managed to determine a true victor.
