Highlord Tirion Fordring and Warchief Thrall were both unable to cure the plague infecting High Overlord Varok. With Varok on the verge of death, Rend had no intention of being used as a pawn and letting the Horde lose such a powerful warrior, regardless of his relationship with Varok.
