The last emperor of the Pandaren Empire, Shaohao, had sacrificed himself and become the mists that protected Pandaria. However, the Cataclysm unleashed by the world-destroyer Deathwing had plunged all of Azeroth into a food crisis and left it deeply wounded.
Thus, Shaohao had decided to disperse the mists himself, relying on Pandaria's abundant resources to help Azeroth solve its food shortage while using the springs of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms to heal the world.
