Background / History

Bahamut interrogates Pete Chinar following the cave ritual and Pete's destruction of a divine-spawn aberration. Skeptical of Pete's claim that his sudden spellcasting ability came from divine revelation, he produces a crystal ball and proposes testing Pete's affinity with the Goddess of Magic. 7

After Pete identifies Noven as the recently awakened Outer God, the God of Knowledge, Bahamut finds the explanation more credible but demands proof through another prayer. When Noven's response leads Pete to cast [True Name Knowledge] on him, Bahamut abruptly uses [Counterspell] before the spell can reveal his full name. He then immediately accepts Pete's innocence and releases him. 8 9

Bahamut records Pete's information in an unfamiliar, elegant script and has him sign the document in gold ink. Once Bahamut leaves, however, the document is entirely blank, and the remaining officer insists that the interrogator was Chief Trun—not Bahamut—and claims never to have heard the name “Bahamut.” 10

Personality

Bahamut presents himself as calm, restrained, and methodical during questioning. He carefully evaluates Pete's testimony rather than accepting it at face value, yet he does not treat Pete as an accomplice once convinced of his innocence. 7 10

His composure breaks when [True Name Knowledge] approaches the true-name invocation. He becomes visibly alarmed, interrupts the spell at once, and hurriedly ends the interrogation, indicating that his identity is a matter of serious concern to him. 9

Arcane Pocket

Bahamut retrieves a starlight-flecked crystal ball from nowhere using [Arcane Pocket], a fifth-tier spell that stores objects in a personal etheric-plane space. Pete therefore concludes that Bahamut is at least a fifth-tier spellcaster. 7

Counterspell

Bahamut casts [Counterspell] to disrupt Pete's [True Name Knowledge] invocation before it can finish naming him. 9
