Background / History

Moni led the formation of a small Stonemasons Brotherhood in Greenport, where he and fellow stonemasons supported one another after arriving without local connections. During an earlier construction job, a stone crushed his left hand, ending his work as a stonemason and forcing him to pay heavily for treatment. His friends pooled money to help him purchase a house and establish the Moni Brothers Tavern, named for the brothers who helped him begin again. 18

Half a year before the Bloodfang Gang conflict, the Brotherhood won a major contract to design and build a vacation estate for a wealthy Rayak merchant. Goblin broker Slyshadow Shatterstone withheld the remaining payment after the work was finished, claimed the project was substandard, and eventually had Dursley’s men beat the stonemasons when they demanded what they were owed. 18

The gang subsequently targeted Moni Brothers Tavern, attempting to force it out of business through intimidation and harassment. Pete Chinar drove off a group of thugs outside the tavern, prompting Moni to welcome him inside and offer his best liquor in gratitude. 14 17

When the gang returned with enhanced fighters, Moni initially tried to send Rena away and protect her himself. He was stunned to learn that she had become a rogue capable of using [Stealth]. When she was endangered, he attempted to draw the attackers’ attention to himself before Pete and Gale arrived. 42 43 44

After Rena explained Noven and the Knowledge Sect to him, Moni became a follower. He supported the sect’s planned action against the Bloodfang Gang, hoping their defeat would end the threat to his tavern and the Lower District. 46

Appearance

Moni is a somewhat burly, middle-aged man with brown hair like Rena’s. His simple, neat clothing and lightly white-streaked beard reflect both his working-class background and age. 17

Personality

Moni is deeply protective of Rena. During the gang’s attack, his immediate concern was getting her to safety, and he was prepared to take the thugs’ attention himself rather than let her be harmed. 42 44

He is also warm and hospitable. Although he worries that a professional mage’s help would be beyond his means to repay, he sincerely thanks Pete for defending the tavern and insists on treating him to his best liquor. 17

His history with the Stonemasons Brotherhood shows a strong belief in mutual support. He wanted to share the tavern’s profits with the friends who helped him establish it, though they refused to accept them. 18

Bloodfang Gang Attack

Moni witnesses Rena reveal her rogue abilities during a renewed gang assault. Though relieved she can protect herself, he is confused by her sudden transformation and steps in when her ambush fails against the gang’s newly strengthened thugs. 42 43 44

Knowledge Sect Base

After joining the Knowledge Sect, Moni allows the tavern to serve as a gathering place for members planning their campaign against the Bloodfang Gang. With the gang temporarily driven back, the tavern becomes lively again and resumes business. 46
