Background / History

Pete is the son of a minor baron from the Rayak Kingdom. His family could afford to secure him admission to Caron Academy in Greenport, where he pursued the mage path because it demanded less physical training than other professional routes. Becoming a third-tier professional was important both for his future inheritance and for retaining the right to hold a fief and recruit a private army. 6 12 40

Before meeting Noven, Pete had weak affinity with the Goddess of Magic and little real combat ability despite his second-tier certification. Near the deadline for his third-tier assessment, desperation led him to a black-robed cult’s ritual site, where he received a divine mission and learned a new way to use the Weave. 4 41

Personality

Pete initially survives through caution, deference, and quick excuses. During Bahamut’s interrogation, he panics at the possibility of being branded an evil god’s follower and repeatedly adapts his explanation to avoid execution. 6 8

Noven’s teachings make him increasingly confident and ambitious. After killing the aberration and mastering offensive magic, he stops seeing himself as a powerless noble student and begins confronting threats directly, including the thugs targeting Rena’s family. 14 16 27

He remains practical about risk and reward. Pete initially hesitates to oppose the Bloodfang Gang because doing so could make him a criminal target, but the Knowledge Sect’s point system and his need for a third-tier spell push him into action. He later becomes capable of organizing other believers and assessing threats calmly under pressure. 19 40 42 44 46 47

Abilities & Skills

Knowledge-Guided Spellcasting

Noven’s divine missions provide Pete with detailed, step-by-step spell knowledge. Rather than relying on affinity and prayer to the Goddess of Magic, he decodes magical signatures to establish a temporary connection with the Weave. 4

  • Can perceive and connect to the Weave far more clearly than through orthodox methods. 4
  • Learns spells with exceptional speed when Noven provides their underlying knowledge. 27
  • Can cast repeatedly without the conventional daily spell-slot limitations, as long as his mental endurance holds. 16 19
  • Heavy spellcasting can exhaust his mind severely; after Hada's Hunger, he loses consciousness. 4
  • Cannot directly share spell knowledge granted by Noven with another person. 23

Hada's Hunger

A third-tier spell Pete learns during the cavern incident and uses to destroy a mutant aberration. 4 6

  • His first successful high-tier spellcasting feat. 4
  • Powerful enough to destroy an aberration that Bahamut believed ordinary third-tier spells might not kill in one strike. 6
  • Considered forbidden magic and unsuitable for his Caron Academy graduation assessment. 40
  • Its casting leaves Pete mentally exhausted. 4

True Name Knowledge

A second-tier arcane spell granted when Pete asks Noven how to earn Bahamut’s trust. 9

  • Calls forth a target’s true name through arcane divination. 9
  • Can see through false names and disguises. 9
  • Was interrupted by Bahamut’s Counterspell before Pete could complete the true name. 9

Arcane Missile

A Tier 1 offensive spell granted to Pete when he chooses to protect Rena’s family tavern. 14

  • Produces three purple magical missiles per casting. 15
  • Takes Pete roughly two seconds to form with his growing proficiency. 15
  • Allows him to incapacitate multiple ordinary thugs through repeated casting. 15 16
  • Is less effective against Bloodfang Gang members strengthened to Tier 1 professional levels. 44

Divine Revelations and Quest Interface

As Noven’s believer, Pete receives missions, progress indicators, rewards, and situational guidance directly in his mind. 6 9 44

  • Can pray to Noven for relevant information and possible solutions. 9 44
  • Receives Knowledge Points through designated tasks, meditation, and recruitment. 18 23
  • Spent a Knowledge Point to obtain the tactical instruction “Lure the enemy in deep!” during the Bloodfang Gang confrontation. 44
  • Can exchange points for magical knowledge, including the third-tier spell Arcane Barrage, which costs 150 Knowledge Points. 40

Recruitment and Leadership

Pete helps establish the Knowledge Sect’s activity in Greenport and recruits others through aptitude-testing rituals and Noven’s reward system. 19 22 33

  • Partners with Rena to offer occupational aptitude tests through the Lower City black market. 22
  • Recruits Rena and later introduces Gale to Noven’s faith. 18 19 42
  • Leads Knowledge Sect followers in coordinated action against the Bloodfang Gang. 46
  • Identifies the gang’s sudden rise in strength as evidence of possible outside divine influence. 47

Relationships

  • Noven / God of Knowledge — Pete’s divine patron. Noven grants him spell knowledge, missions, tactical information, and a path outside the Goddess of Magic’s restrictions; Pete becomes Noven’s true believer. 4 5 8 9 28
  • Rena — Partner in the Knowledge Sect’s recruitment and black-market aptitude-test venture. Pete protects her family from thugs, while Rena provides local knowledge and supports their operations. 14 16 22 33 46
  • Lena Monia — A survivor of the black-robed ritual who thanks Pete for destroying the monster and saving the captives. 12
  • Bahamut — Pete’s mysterious interrogator, whom Pete must convince of his innocence. Pete’s attempted use of True Name Knowledge causes Bahamut to abruptly release him. 6 11
  • Gale — Pete’s Caron Academy roommate and later ally. Pete recruits him to Noven’s faith and enlists him for the Bloodfang Gang event. 41 42 44

Story Role / Major Arcs

Black-Robed Ritual and Interrogation

Pete is drawn into a cult ritual while seeking a solution to his academic pressure. Guided by an unknown god, he casts Hada's Hunger and destroys the aberration threatening the captives. He then wakes restrained at Greenport Police Station, where he must persuade Bahamut that his new power does not come from an evil god. 4 6 10

Acceptance of the God of Knowledge

After Noven presents himself as an Outer God known as the God of Knowledge, Pete accepts the explanation and begins relying on divine revelations. Defense of Moni Brothers Tavern

Pete meets the ritual survivor Lena, then becomes involved with Rena and the troubles surrounding Moni Brothers Tavern. When Lord Dursley’s thugs attack, Pete chooses not to flee, learns Arcane Missile, and defeats the group through repeated casting. 12 14 17

Bloodfang Gang Event

Seeking enough Knowledge Points to obtain a third-tier spell for his assessment, Pete joins Noven’s limited-time campaign against the Bloodfang Gang.
