Background / History

Hinata was bullied by three children after leaving home in the aftermath of Neji's father's incident. Naruto intervened to protect her, though a Hyūga maid arrived and regarded him with contempt because of his reputation as the Nine-Tails jinchūriki. 1

As the eldest daughter of the Hyūga main family, she trained at home almost every day and lived an isolated life. Naruto was the only person outside her family she regularly thought about; unable to seek him out openly, she would go outside each New Year hoping to encounter him. 4

At the Academy, Hinata was initially so shy that she could barely introduce herself. She named flower arranging as an interest and stated that she wanted to become a powerful ninja. Her growing friendship with Naruto helped her become less socially anxious. 7 10

Appearance

Hinata is identified by her pale Byakugan eyes and, as a child, short hair reaching her ears and a red scarf. Her evolved eyes later develop subtle blue pupils within the white irises. 4 50

Personality

Hinata begins as timid, nervous, and lacking in confidence, but she repeatedly acts when it matters: she asks Naruto to lunch, chooses to train despite the risks to her Chūnin Exam participation, and refuses to remain a burden. 11 43 44

She is deeply devoted to Naruto and follows his instruction with unusual trust, even abandoning the Hyūga Gentle Fist for the martial arts he teaches her. Naruto considers her obedience and willingness to learn central reasons for choosing her as his disciple. 58
