Background

Naruto was born during the Nine-Tails' attack on Konohagakure. As Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki prepared to use the Reaper Death Seal while their life forces faded, Uchiha Yoru intervened and saved the family. 1 3

Yoru later revealed that Konoha's leadership intended to conceal Naruto's parentage, isolate him as the “demon fox,” and shape him into a controllable weapon. Minato and Kushina chose to leave Konoha with Yoru and the defecting Uchiha Clan, taking Naruto to Iwagakure. 9 10

In Iwagakure, Naruto's status as the Nine-Tails jinchūriki was kept secret. The village instead knew him as Minato's son, and he grew up openly cherished by the villagers rather than feared or isolated. 24
