Background / History

Madara's contingency plan was activated when Black Zetsu took control of the broken Obito and used the Outer Path — Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to revive him. Yoru knowingly allowed the process to continue, viewing Madara as a useful vessel for Hashirama-cell research rather than an immediate threat 172.

After awakening, Madara learned that the Akatsuki had been dismantled, Nagato was dead, and Yoru had risen to dominate Iwagakure and much of the shinobi world. Amused by the prospect of an Uchiha descendant powerful enough to ruin his plans, he demanded to be taken to Yoru 189.

Madara confronted Yoru, Naruto, Sasuke, and Ōnoki outside the Land of Fire Daimyō's Court. He was immediately unsettled by Sasuke's developing Rinnegan and Naruto's controlled Nine-Tails chakra, then challenged the group to fight 190. Naruto's Sage Art-enhanced attacks and Sasuke's ability to split Madara's Tengai Shinsei meteor exposed the gulf between Madara's expectations and the new generation's power 191 194.

Despite deploying his Rinnegan techniques, Perfect Susanoo, Limbo, and eventually the Ten-Tails' power, Madara was repeatedly neutralized by Yoru and his students. His attempt to regain supremacy as a Six Paths combatant ended when Yoru countered his Truth-Seeking Orbs, overwhelmed him with Baryon Mode, and subjected him to dimensional suppression through an Artificial Miniature Black Hole 197 199 203 204.

When Madara attempted to self-destruct, Black Zetsu betrayed him to seize his remaining chakra and Rinnegan for Kaguya's cause. Yoru then destroyed Madara's head, while Sasuke finished Black Zetsu's exposed form with Amaterasu. Madara died reflecting that his era—and the plans to which he devoted his life—had become obsolete 205 207.

Appearance

Madara first returns in a crude reanimated body: tall, barefoot, and dressed only in a decayed strip of black cloth. A pale Hashirama-face graft is stitched into the center of his chest, and his body bears the damage and instability of his resurrection vessel 190.

Personality

Madara is fiercely arrogant and treats nearly everyone around him as beneath his notice. He dismisses Ōnoki outright, regards Naruto and Sasuke as insignificant children, and repeatedly frames his own power as divine 190 201.

His confidence is rooted in a lifetime spent pursuing absolute power and the Eye of the Moon Plan. However, the technological and combat advances of Iwagakure leave him confused, humiliated, and increasingly desperate; even so, he continues escalating rather than accepting defeat 193 200.

By his death, Madara recognizes that he was manipulated by Black Zetsu and that his ambitions no longer fit the changed shinobi world 205 207.
