Background / History

Naruto grows up isolated at the Ninja Academy. During lunch, he sits alone while other children avoid him and passing adults regard him with disgust because he is the Nine-Tails' jinchuriki. He is also repeatedly punished for pranks, though Iruka's discipline lacks genuine hostility. 1

Despite his poor early performance, Naruto spends his time after school practicing shuriken throwing by himself. His first encounter with Uchiha Shuo Ye begins when he calls him over at the playground; Shuo Ye identifies Naruto's uncontrolled chakra leakage as the reason his throws veer off course. 2

Naruto later asks Shuo Ye directly for chakra-control instruction and repeatedly seeks him out, first for advice, then for sparring and companionship. Though Shuo Ye initially keeps his distance, he gradually becomes Naruto's mentor and friend. 4 7
