Background and History
Ghost Gate was one of five forbidden lands known to the Divine Realm, alongside the Immortal Tomb, God Tomb, Demon Cave, and Monster Land. Each had brought calamity upon the universe; Ghost Gate was among the three still remaining when it approached the Creation God Realm 252.
The God of Time’s Great Clock predicted that Ghost Gate would fully materialize beside the Divine Realm in seven Divine Realm days—equivalent to seven years on the continents. The Five Supreme Gods and more than twenty First-level Deities assembled to confront it 257. While the Divine Realm fought Ghost Gate’s main forces, gates appeared across Douluo Continent and released creatures wreathed in black qi 279. Its forces also occupied territory on other continents and established a major presence on the Sun Moon Continent 285 308 330.
Ghost Gate’s master sought a way onto the Ancient Path of the Underworld. He acted through multiple parts of himself: the Great Evil Spirit pursued the Douluo Continent’s Plane Will for the Dragon God’s knowledge of the path, while another part confronted the God of Goodness near a passage to the Demon Cave 359 360 362. After the master’s death, Yang Dong declared Ghost Gate history and imposed a century of Heavenly Court service on its surviving God Level members who wished to remain 365 377 378.
Appearance
The main Ghost Gate appeared at the edge of the Divine Realm as a dark-purple gateway that devoured energy from the universe 257.
- Smaller manifestations appeared as stone gates, including one above the sea outside Sea God Island 260 302.
- Gates also formed in seas, cities, and ancient forests across Douluo Continent during the invasion 279.
Manifestations and Methods
Gates and invasion
- Local gates released humans, beasts, and gods wreathed in black qi onto Douluo Continent 279.
- Smaller gates could be destroyed: Bibi Dong cleared many within the Spirit Empire, while Yang Dong destroyed the gate outside Sea God Island 286 306.
- Ghost Gate constructed four large altars on the Sun Moon Continent. They later drew four planes into it, making it the faction’s largest gathering place 308 330.
Corruption and empowerment
- A miniature Ghost Gate hidden in the Angel God’s body opened during his rebellion; its power further corroded him and produced a dark, ominous transformation 279 282.
- Ghost Gate enhanced Fourth King Hall to First-level Deity strength, though Yang Dong still killed him 306.
- The God of Goodness stated that Ghost Gate’s inhabitants had themselves reduced their original world to decay. The Great Evil Spirit acknowledged the decay but presented the invasion as a search for a new home 341 343.
