Shisui enters the story as a first-year Academy student already ranked first in his grade. He practices shuriken techniques before an audience of admiring younger students. 35

After seeing Qian Yun's combat ability, Shisui approaches him timidly to request shuriken instruction. In return for Qian Yun's account of the One-Tail conflict, he teaches the Uchiha Clan's classic shuriken-throwing method and shares his personal insights. 36

Shisui later teaches Qian Yun the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique, explaining that it is forbidden. He is notably uneasy around strangers and immediately leaves when Might Guy arrives. 37 He subsequently passes an assessment and is assigned alongside Qian Yun and Kakashi Hatake for a C-rank mission to retrieve stolen supplies in the Land of Crafts. 39 45
