Background / History

Sasuke grew up in the Uchiha clan with his parents, Fugaku and Mikoto, and his older brother, Itachi. He remembers Itachi as gentle, talented, and caring, despite frequently being too busy to spend time with him. 37 50

His life was defined by the Uchiha clan massacre. Returning from the Ninja Academy, Sasuke found the clan district covered in corpses and discovered his parents dead, with Itachi standing between them. The event left him consumed by grief, hatred, and the goal of killing his brother. 50

Following the massacre, Sasuke was left without systematic Sharingan instruction; the scrolls remaining at home covered only basic Fire Release. His isolation and lack of guidance contribute to his uncertainty over Sharingan genjutsu. 45

As a member of Team 7, Sasuke is drawn into the Dream Theater alongside Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi. Naruto’s dreams first force him to witness alternate versions of his family alive and the Uchiha clan intact. He initially lashes out at Naruto over the emotional turmoil, but later recognizes that Naruto is likely not responsible for the dreams. 20 22

When Sasuke himself becomes a dream target, he reunites with Mikoto, Fugaku, and an unfallen Itachi. The experience deepens both his longing for his family and his conflict over the brother he remembers versus the brother he believes massacred the clan. 33 35 37

Appearance

Sasuke has black spiky hair, dark eyes, and a notably composed expression. When his Sharingan is active, his eyes become crimson with a single tomoe. 1 19

  • Black, spiky hair 1
  • Dark or obsidian-colored eyes 43
  • One-tomoe Sharingan 19 49
  • Often presents an intentionally cool, indifferent expression even when emotionally affected 48 49

Personality

Sasuke is proud, competitive, and intensely driven to become stronger. He initially dismisses Naruto as an idiot, but he also notices Naruto’s tactical ability and later treats their rivalry seriously. 1 5 43

He is guarded around others and conceals vulnerable feelings behind coldness or hostility. This façade breaks down when the dreams return his mother, brother, and clan to him; afterward, he is embarrassed that Naruto and the others saw him crying and clinging to Mikoto. 35 37

Sasuke’s hatred of Itachi remains central to his decisions. Even while accepting dream Itachi’s training, he frames the opportunity as preparation to understand Itachi’s techniques and eventually kill his real-world brother. 23 49

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan

Sasuke possesses a one-tomoe Sharingan, awakened on the night of the Uchiha massacre. It is associated with the Uchiha clan’s observational, copying, hypnotic, and genjutsu abilities, though Sasuke lacks formal instruction in many of its applications. 19 45

  • Activates the one-tomoe Sharingan under intense emotional stress. 19 33
  • Uses it during his dream spar with Naruto. 44
  • Requires the Sharingan to attempt the genjutsu taught by Itachi. 49
  • Has not successfully performed Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique on-page. 50

Fire Release

Sasuke can perform Uchiha Fire Release techniques and relies on them heavily in combat and training. 23 34

  • Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique — Produces a large, destructive fireball; used against targets in the Uchiha ruins and against dream Itachi. 23 33 34
  • Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique — Launches multiple small fireballs and conceals shuriken within the attack. 34
  • His Fire Release can become rough and chakra-inefficient, according to dream Itachi. 49

Shurikenjutsu and Taijutsu

Sasuke is skilled with shuriken and close-quarters combat, using rapid combinations rather than relying on a single technique. 34

  • Uses multi-angle Uchiha-style shuriken attacks. 34 43
  • Combines shuriken with Phoenix Sage Fire to obscure hidden projectiles. 34
  • Demonstrates enough taijutsu improvement to force dream Itachi backward before being overwhelmed. 34
  • Is recognized by Kakashi as top-tier for a newly graduated genin in chakra control and battlefield adaptability. 34

Chakra Control

Sasuke trains chakra control through tree climbing under Kakashi’s instruction. 46 47

  • Quickly understands the principle of adhering chakra to a tree trunk. 46
  • Can move upside down along a tree trunk for a short distance after a day of practice. 47
  • Views chakra-control training as a way to address weaknesses in his strength. 46

Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique

A Sharingan genjutsu demonstrated and taught by dream Itachi. It traps a target in an illusion of shadow chains and massive stakes, restraining them mentally. 50

  • Cast through ocular power by directing chakra through the user’s gaze into the target’s brain. 50
  • Most effective against ordinary opponents or shinobi much weaker than the caster. 50
  • Can be resisted or countered by Sharingan users and opponents with exceptionally strong spiritual energy. 50
  • Sasuke understands its principles but fails his initial attempt. 50

  • Sakura Haruno — Team 7 teammate. Sakura is openly infatuated with Sasuke and repeatedly worries about his emotional state. 14 20 35

  • Itachi Uchiha — Older brother and the target of Sasuke’s revenge. Sasuke remembers him as a loving brother but believes him responsible for the Uchiha massacre. 37 50
  • Mikoto Uchiha — Sasuke’s mother. Her appearance in the dreams overwhelms Sasuke, who deeply misses her affection, cooking, and presence. 20 35 36
  • Fugaku Uchiha — Sasuke’s father. Sasuke remembers living with him before the massacre; in the dream, Fugaku is stern and frequently occupied by Security Department work. 36 50
