Background / History

Kakashi became Team 7's jonin instructor after administering the bell-stealing survival exercise. Despite the test's difficulties, he was gratified that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura understood the importance of comradeship 1.

He is a former student of Minato Namikaze, whom he deeply respects. Minato taught Kakashi the Rasengan after Kakashi became a jonin; Kakashi later used the technique as a reference for developing a ninjutsu more suited to himself 10 11. He also retains a transplanted Sharingan in his left eye, given in connection with his deceased friend Obito 20 50.

Kakashi's first encounter with the Dream Theater occurs when he is pulled from sleep into a dark auditorium with Sasuke and Sakura. Though his chakra remains available, his Substitution Jutsu, Body Flicker, and genjutsu release fail, while even his Sharingan detects no chakra or genjutsu traces 1 15.

Initially observing the phenomenon in secret, Kakashi searches the ANBU archives for records of related genjutsu, barriers, dream techniques, and forbidden jutsu, but finds no explanation 8 15. Personality

Kakashi usually presents himself as lazy, casual, and chronically late, often deflecting complaints with absurd excuses. His students openly recognize this habit, and he is visibly embarrassed when confronted with it 16 42.

Behind that relaxed exterior, he is observant, analytical, and intensely protective of his students. He recognizes the danger of the Dream Theater immediately, investigates it through ANBU channels, reports to the Hokage, and follows orders to monitor Naruto discreetly 1 8 15. He also shows particular concern when Sasuke pushes himself through sleepless, punishing training 23 32.
