Background

Tang Ya inherited the declining Tang Sect after her parents were killed by the Iron Blood Sect. She escaped under their protection, then sought help from the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Clear Sky Sect, and Shrek Academy; all refused to assist her revenge. She subsequently tried to preserve the sect through its remaining inherited techniques, hidden weapons, and personal savings. 10 25

As sect master, Tang Ya initially blamed soul tools for the Tang Sect's collapse and upheld Tang San's legacy as unquestionable. Her belief was complicated by the sect's own restrictive succession practices: previous sect masters had been selected for Blue Silver Grass martial souls and focused on cultivation rather than adapting to soul-tool development. 4 10 11

Before meeting Jiang Mu, she traveled in Star Dou Forest with Bei Bei to find her third soul ring. During an Iron Fist Gorilla attack, Bei Bei took her away while Jiang Mu and Jiang Nannan remained behind to fight. Tang Ya returned remorseful, apologized for leaving them, and expelled Bei Bei from the Tang Sect after concluding that he had abandoned others in battle. 4 6 8

Personality

Tang Ya is initially open, energetic, and unusually forward with Jiang Mu, approaching him first in Star Dou Forest, inviting him to hunt with her, and trying to recruit him into the Tang Sect. Her enthusiasm is tempered by insecurity over the Tang Sect's weakness and her own limited status. 3 13

She is deeply attached to her parents' legacy and Tang San's teachings. This attachment makes her defensive and stubborn when Jiang Mu challenges the Tang Sect's rejection of soul tools or suggests that its inherited methods were incomplete. Even when briefly provoked to 1% killing intent, she cannot sustain hostility toward him. 11

Tang Ya also has a decisive side. Although she feels guilty over leaving Jiang Mu during the gorilla battle, she refuses to excuse Bei Bei for the same incident and expels him from her sect. Later, confronted with the possibility that revenge and hatred could turn her into a Holy Spirit Cult slaughter machine, she chooses to reconsider her loyalty to the Tang Sect and pursue a new path with Jiang Mu. 6 27 31

Tang Ya and Bei Bei are first encountered fighting Mandala Snakes while seeking her third soul ring. Tang Ya is frightened at first but recovers and contributes with Blue Silver Grass. Her immediate interest in Jiang Mu sparks Jiang Nannan's jealousy and Bei Bei's killing intent. 2 3

She becomes the Iron Fist Gorilla's target due to her slower speed and is saved when Jiang Mu blocks its attack. After Bei Bei takes her away from the fight, Tang Ya returns guilty and apologetic; Jiang Mu accepts compensation in the form of an exam-exempt Shrek Academy quota and hidden weapons. 4 6

Tang Ya later finds and absorbs a thousand-year Mandala Snake soul ring, becoming a Soul Elder. 9

Shrek City

On the journey to Shrek City, Tang Ya recounts the Tang Sect's destruction and her parents' deaths. She clashes with Jiang Mu over soul tools and Tang San's legacy, though his criticism leaves her uncertain rather than hostile. 10 11

She guides Jiang Mu through Shrek City, assists with auctioning the Iron Fist Gorilla soul bone, and offers him and Jiang Nannan lodging in her inn room. She also warns Jiang Mu about Xu Sanshi's vindictive nature. 12 13 16

Shrek Academy and New Allegiance

Tang Ya uses the Tang Sect's admission quota to help Jiang Mu enroll at Shrek Academy. After Jiang Nannan returns home, Tang Ya stays with Jiang Mu and openly rejects Bei Bei and Huo Yuhao when they arrive at the academy. 26 27

Jiang Mu later reveals his knowledge of Tang Ya's possible future capture by the Holy Spirit Cult and challenges her devotion to Tang San and the Tang Sect. Overwhelmed but persuaded, Tang Ya agrees to join his planned force if he evolves her Blue Silver Grass; after this evolution occurs, the two share their first kiss. 31 33
