Background / History
Dragon Clan Origins
Di Tian was born during the Dragon Clan’s prosperous age. As a talented descendant of the Dark Dragon King, he received the Dragon God’s Claw directly from the Dragon God. He was still young and far below Dragon King strength when the rebellion occurred, leaving him unable to prevent the Dragon God from being cleaved in two 186.
After the defeat, Di Tian escaped through a spatial rift to Douluo Continent alongside the Silver Dragon King. Having witnessed the destruction of the dragons’ former glory, he vowed to restore his race. His subsequent cultivation was constrained by the prohibition on Soul Beast godhood and lethal tribulations at every additional hundred-thousand-year threshold 186.
Discovery of Ling Xiao
When the Three-Eyed Golden Lion sensed an aura resembling another auspicious beast in the north, Di Tian immediately investigated the report and dispatched the Myriad Demon King to gather intelligence 31.
The investigation instead revealed Ling Xiao, an Innate Thunder Spirit capable of helping Soul Beasts survive Heavenly Tribulations. Di Tian assembled the forest’s core members to consider their response. Although Bi Ji recommended a mutually beneficial agreement, he decided that superior strength entitled the Great Star Dou Forest to control Ling Xiao 46 58 59.
Di Tian prepared an expedition with nearly all the Ferocious Beasts. He initially intended to leave the Auspicious Beast behind, but relented after she threatened to curse the expedition with bad luck and Bi Ji and Scarlet King supported bringing her 59.
Extreme North Confrontation
Di Tian demanded Ling Xiao’s surrender, presenting “unified management” as necessary for the revival of all Soul Beasts. Ling Xiao rejected that authority and accused him of seeking control rather than cooperation. The northern defenders then revealed cultivation far above the Myriad Demon King’s outdated estimates 61 62.
Snow Empress confronted Di Tian directly. His Spatial Law gave him an offensive advantage, but her mastery of the Extreme North’s terrain prevented a decisive victory. Ling Xiao’s Endless Thunder Domain then overturned the wider battle, endangering Di Tian’s companions and disrupting his spatial movement 63 64 65.
Recognizing his mistake, Di Tian gathered the other beasts beneath his dragon wings and protected them from the lightning. He accepted Ling Xiao’s request to become a sparring partner only after securing a promise that his people would not be harmed 65 66.
During the sparring session, Di Tian deliberately demonstrated advanced spatial techniques. Ling Xiao learned them at extraordinary speed, then used spatially redirected Four-Colored Heavenly Thunder to wound him. Di Tian ended the session and advised Ling Xiao to consolidate his insights. Before departing, he received Ling Xiao’s warning about the Auspicious Beast eventually taking human form 66 67 68.
Cooperation and the Tree of Life
After the Myriad Demon King uncovered the Clear Sky Sect’s campaign to expose the Far North’s treasures and strength, Di Tian chose to warn Ling Xiao personally. He subsequently agreed to help Ling Xiao spread information about human factions, with the Auspicious Beast’s future becoming a point of private understanding between them 93 94 95.
Di Tian later permitted Ling Xiao and the Ice and Snow Empresses to enter the normally restricted Star Dou Core Area. Their discussion concerned the Tree of Life, Gu Yuena’s hidden presence, and the danger of attracting divine attention. After they departed, Gu Yuena ordered the Ferocious Beasts to seize the tree from Shrek but give it to Ling Xiao’s faction rather than bring it back to the forest 144 145 146.
Di Tian led Bi Ji, Xiong Jun, Myriad Demon King, and Zi Ji to retrieve the tree. Tang San secretly disrupted his escape rift, prompting Di Tian to send his companions ahead while remaining behind. Believing himself trapped by a God-King, he unleashed Sun and Moon Shine Together and the Black Dragon Sword, killing the human combatants before escaping through another rift 166 173.
After reuniting with his companions, Di Tian handed the tree to Ling Xiao. He proposed reviving the Soul Beast Clan together and even offered to follow Ling Xiao’s lead. Ling Xiao deferred the proposal until its risks and timing could be considered 174.
Auspicious Beast Crisis
Di Tian initially reacted furiously when Xuan Zi captured the Auspicious Beast. Gu Yuena reminded him of Ling Xiao’s warning and the danger of confronting the God-King behind her transformation. Di Tian restrained himself, appeared personally, and pressured Xuan Zi into releasing her without exposing the forest’s larger plans 165 166.
When she subsequently disappeared to take human form, Di Tian sought Ling Xiao’s help with Gu Yuena’s permission. Returning to the icefield where he had once attempted to seize Ling Xiao, he acknowledged how badly he had misjudged the balance of power 184 185.
Breakthrough and Recovery
Ling Xiao brought Di Tian to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, where he reunited with the remnant souls of the Dragon Kings he called “Uncle Fire” and “Aunt Ice.” Their remaining essences provided the opportunity to overcome his 890,000-year bottleneck 185 186 187.
Di Tian initially faced the resulting tribulation alone, wishing to test his strength and demonstrate his growth before the Dragon Kings. Seven- and eight-colored lightning severely wounded him, forcing Ling Xiao to intervene before the damage became irreversible. Their cooperation enabled Di Tian to reach 930,000 years 188 189.
Back at the Lake of Life, Di Tian entrusted Ling Xiao with retrieving the transformed Auspicious Beast. He then entered recovery while preparations continued for a journey to Dragon Valley and a confrontation with Tang San 190 196.
Appearance
- Eyes: Dark golden in both his humanoid presentation and dragon form 58 59 65.
- True form: The Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King, with scales and large wings capable of sheltering the assembled Ferocious Beasts 65 67.
- Transformation: Can shift between humanoid and dragon forms, returning to human form for his sparring match with Ling Xiao 65 66.
Personality
Di Tian initially treats strength as the basis of political legitimacy. Confident in his cultivation, bloodline, and Beast God title, he considers Ling Xiao unworthy of negotiating with him as an equal. This pride leads him to underestimate both Ling Xiao and the Extreme North’s rapid development 59 62.
His responsibility toward his companions overrides that pride when their lives are threatened. He refuses to escape alone from the Thunder Domain, secures their safety before agreeing to spar, and later stays behind so the Tree of Life and his allies can escape Shrek 65 66 173.
Di Tian becomes increasingly pragmatic after recognizing Ling Xiao’s potential and the scale of divine interference. His willingness to accept Ling Xiao’s leadership shows that restoring the Soul Beast Clan matters more to him than preserving his own supremacy. He remains emotionally attached to his dragon elders and deeply protective of the Auspicious Beast 174 186 190.
