Background / History
War Lizardfolk are low-level Spirit Realm creatures that usually inhabit jungles and swamplands. Adult individuals naturally possess apprentice-level combat strength through their hardened scales and physical power; more capable members may cultivate battle qi or become bloodline sorcerers. 32
A group of over twenty War Lizardfolk arrived at a mall to hunt walking corpses as provisions. The party included two Black Iron-ranked knights mounted on Swamp Giant Lizards. 32 Their hunt triggered a confrontation with a Corpse King and its walking-corpse horde. The Corpse King killed both knights and destroyed one mount; the surviving War Lizardfolk abandoned their wounded and fled. 33
Later, several War Lizardfolk returned with reinforcements to retrieve corpses. They primarily carried away walking-corpse bodies, while recovering only some of their own dead. Designated tribesmen wiped away blood trails to keep nighttime walking corpses from tracking the group back to its tribe. 34
Pet Fangs later led eleven War Lizardfolk, including himself as a Black Iron-ranked leader, to a goblin tribe. Preparing for war against the Redtooth Clan, he sought hemostatic herbs, a Bloodlust Totem, and Bloodboil Potions from Shaman Malo. Malo sold Pet Fangs only ten portions of hemostatic herbs in exchange for natural magic stone. 50 Malo had falsely claimed that the Redtooth Clan had already bought herbs and totems from him, intending to keep the War Lizardfolk and kobolds evenly matched and dependent on his trade. 51
After Huo Ling intercepted a War Lizardfolk hunting party, he offered the tribe goblin shaman-made hemostatic and bloodboil herbs, as well as Bloodlust Totems. The following day, chieftain Gus Fangtooth brought more than forty War Lizardfolk, including five Black Iron-ranked warriors, to trade with him. Gus correctly suspected that Huo Ling had killed the kobold escort originally transporting the goods. 55
Armed with Huo Ling's supplies, the tribe mobilized against the Redtooth Clan. Its force consisted of slightly more than two hundred adult warriors and seventeen Black Iron-ranked professionals, led by the veteran Black Iron-ranked knight Gus Fangtooth. 56 The War Lizardfolk initially broke through the kobolds' defenses, but the Greenvine Tribe's hobgoblins ambushed them from the rear. Their preference for individual fighting proved inferior to the hobgoblins' disciplined coordination, resulting in the deaths of five Black Iron warriors and more than sixty adult fighters. 62
After the battle, the tribe retained twelve Black Iron warriors and approximately one hundred and fifty adult fighters. Seeking revenge and resources after discovering that the Greenvine Tribe had been raided and lost Shaman Malo, Gus led the survivors to pressure the weakened goblins. 62 Black Iron warrior Pete Razor-Tooth later acted as the tribe's envoy, proposing that the War Lizardfolk cooperate with Huo Ling in attacking the goblins. 63 Huo Ling instead accepted the Greenvine Tribe's surrender and convinced Gus to withdraw by providing medicinal herbs while demonstrating the danger of opposing him. 64
At a later point, the War Lizardfolk attacked the Greenvine Tribe again. The Skeleton Warriors Huo Ling had stationed on the tribe's walls were all destroyed in its defense. By the time Huo Ling returned, War Lizardfolk present within the expanded Greenvine Tribe had become goblin slave soldiers, suggesting that the original tribe had suffered a severe reversal. 142
Appearance
War Lizardfolk resemble large upright lizards, with dense scales and a lizard-like head. Their anatomy is adapted for both tracking and armed combat. 32
- Stand approximately 1.5–1.8 meters tall. 32
- Have dense scales and hide described as tough as old cowhide, providing considerable natural defense. 32
- Possess thick, powerful legs that support an upright stance. 32
- Have strong upper limbs capable of wielding weapons. 32
- Flick forked tongues to collect scents from the air. 32
- Pet Fangs is described as tall and imposing, with fine sharp teeth and a forked tongue. 50
Society and Behavior
- War Lizardfolk are intelligent, though their intelligence is described as limited compared with more cerebral races. 32
- They speak Lizardfolk tongue; some also know rudimentary Draconic. 32
- They use walking-corpse bodies as provisions and will return to recover them after a failed hunt. 32 34
- Their exceptional sense of smell lets them follow the trails of enemies and prey. 32
- They understand that walking corpses are attracted to blood and actively erase blood trails near their settlement. 34
- They remain quiet after nightfall, including their Swamp Giant Lizards, to avoid attracting the walking corpses that dominate the city at night. 51
- Their tribe was large enough to field more than two hundred adult warriors and seventeen Black Iron-ranked formal professionals. 56
- They tend to fight independently, a weakness when facing organized and coordinated enemies such as hobgoblin forces. 62
- They trade with other Spirit Realm peoples, using magic stone as currency for herbs, totems, and other war supplies. 50 55
- Goblin shaman Malo deliberately manipulated their trade relationship by falsely representing the Redtooth Clan's purchases, seeking to prevent either side from decisively defeating the other. 51
Abilities & Skills
Natural Physique
Adult War Lizardfolk can reach apprentice-level combat power without formal cultivation.
- Dense scales and tough underlying skin provide natural protection against attacks. 32
- Their powerful limbs allow them to fight with clubs, bones, or captured weapons. 32
- Ordinary walking corpses struggle to penetrate their hide and armor with claws and bites. 32
Tracking
War Lizardfolk use their forked tongues and strong sense of smell to locate prey and hostile targets.
- They can readily follow scent trails left by enemies or prey. 32
- Their tracking ability makes evasion difficult for opponents who leave a detectable trail. 32
Warrior Cultivation
Smarter War Lizardfolk may become warrior-type professionals by cultivating battle qi through breathing techniques.
- Can exceed their biological limits and advance to Black Iron or Silver rank. 32
- Their Black Iron-ranked knights use battle qi alongside heavy weapons and mounted charges. 32 33
- Battle-qi-enhanced weapon strikes could only inflict shallow wounds on the Silver-ranked Corpse King. 33
- The tribe possessed seventeen Black Iron-ranked formal professionals before its campaign against the Redtooth Clan, including chieftain Gus Fangtooth, a veteran Black Iron-ranked knight. 56
Bloodline Sorcery
The most intelligent War Lizardfolk may become bloodline sorcerers.
- Their bloodlines grant low-tier spell-like abilities rather than conventional spell training. 32
- Documented potential abilities include Acid Spray, Stench, and Rotting Carrion Flies. 32
- No sorcerers were identified within the mall hunting party. 32
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Wooden clubs, prey bones, and captured enemy weapons. 32
- Heavy weapons, including long-handled battle axes and battle swords, used by knights. 33
- Saddles and reins for mounted warfare. 32
