Background / History

About two hundred years before Drogo's arrival, the settlement was smaller and did not yet bear the name Twin Towers City. During that period, the young mage Soren Ambrosius sheltered civilians in his mage tower and successfully repelled a passing attack of Drogo's dragon fire with its protective barrier. 3 4 12

Twin Towers City's subsequent rise was accelerated by its advantageous geography, industrial technology, arcane development, and the establishment of a top spellcaster academy. Its early development was also shaped by Drogo's destruction of a resource-controlling mining family, an event which incidentally elevated Soren as a rising figure in the magical world. 122 219

By the time of the main story, Twin Towers City has become one of the continent's foremost centers for commerce, magic, and technology. It was among the earliest cities to establish a patent system, and its economic reach extends beyond the Sutton Kingdom through railways and trade. 11 31

The city grew at exceptional speed through immigration. Its streets contain buildings and customs from many regions, as newcomers brought their own architectural styles, traditions, and industries. It also accepted numerous scientists fleeing persecution in the Loman Empire, contributing to the growth of the Twin Towers City Research Institute. 219 415

Despite its prosperity, the benefits of development have not been distributed evenly. Poor factory neighborhoods and slums remain largely unchanged even as the city modernizes around them. Later, Church policies requiring intensive prayer and game-like religious participation leave most commercial streets deserted, cause widespread unemployment, and severely damage its entertainment economy. 386 458

Society and Institutions

  • Liebin Spellcaster Academy — Its schools and departments are distributed throughout the city rather than enclosed within a single campus; in this sense, Twin Towers City surrounds the academy. 37
  • Patent Office — Approves magical and entertainment-related inventions, including Aisha's patent for Jump Jump. 11 12
  • Garrison Corps — Charged with maintaining order, but some personnel participate in the campaign against Ragu Kulman's potion factory and abuse Raul while he is detained. It later undergoes organizational reforms and cooperates with Hell to establish a Criminal Psychology Institute staffed by Feren and Devil investigators. 32 44 291
  • Inspection Bureau — Conducts inspections of local businesses, including Kulman's factory. 32
  • Twin Towers Magic Vision Station — Provides live broadcasts of major local incidents, including the Riverside Street drider crisis. 215
  • Twin Towers City World Expo — A major cultural and commercial exchange event held once every five years, drawing trade delegations from Feilin and other continents. Later expos are planned around a dedicated exposition park with national and organizational pavilions. 54 61 292
  • Native-population protections — The government forbids forcibly removing the kuo-toa tribe from a nearby island because the tribe predates the city's founding. 18
  • Church and Inquisition — The Church initially maintains a local presence through its bishop and priests, including medical aid for striking workers. It later gains sufficient control to enforce mandatory prayer requirements and punish citizens deemed insufficiently devout. 257 458

Although the city claims to welcome all races equally, prejudice remains entrenched. Goblins cannot openly appear on commercial streets without disrupting business, while orcs, drow, and other nonhuman groups are conspicuous enough that Drogo limits the number of subordinates he brings into the city. 5 46

The city also maintains a strong prejudice against outsiders despite being populated largely by migrants. “Locals” frequently look down on newer arrivals, while poorer districts are hidden during major public events to preserve a prosperous image. 61 219

Following the Magic Vision hacking crisis and the resulting transformation of some citizens into tieflings, Drogo Group begins Tiefling recruitment and training programs in the city. Its crews undertake municipal work such as bridge, road, and sewer repairs, improving public attitudes by reducing tiefling-related crime. 232 249

Economy and Culture

Twin Towers City is a major consumer market where trends spread rapidly. Drogo establishes his toy store directly opposite the established Arclight Toy Store on Cornflower Street, using the area's existing concentration of toy buyers to compete for customers. 3 4

The city becomes the launch point for Drogo's yo-yos, Blazing Teens comic serialization, puzzle bounties, blind-box events, mini-games, and Magic Shadow films. Yo-yos eventually account for more than half of all toys sold in the city over a two-month period, while Drogo's products travel by railway beyond the border and across the continent. 5 10 13 15 31

Drogo Group later consolidates its flagship retail presence into Drogo Toy City, which displays past products, previews new releases, and provides exclusive check-in stamps and souvenirs. The city also develops an especially concentrated anime and toy-enthusiast culture due to the Group's headquarters and Doudou's personal promotion efforts. 201 209

Magic Shadow also reaches audiences across social classes. Holy Mountain Journey plays in slum theaters for one copper coin, while wealthy merchants such as Ragu Kulman watch promotional screenings from private boxes in Twin Towers Arena. 28 47

The city is also an important site for Magic Vision and interactive-entertainment development. Drogo opens the continent's first internet café, Flying Red Center Church, before the World Expo, using membership tiers and commemorative gifts to promote customer loyalty. Magic Vision, competitive games, anime, online discussion boards, and arcade devices become prominent parts of urban life. 54 61 76

Twin Towers City’s music scene supports Drogo Group's animation work. When producing Tom and Jerry, Drogo commissions the city's leading orchestras and composers to submit scores, eventually discovering Kelan Finarfin's work among the entries. 163

Competitive gaming becomes a major local industry. The city fields Children of Twin Towers, a heavily branded team supported by Grace, the Twin Towers City Sports Lottery, Galina's Little Fireball Idle Marketplace, and numerous local businesses. The team develops a large fan base through Red Alert and later reaches the grand final of the Guard the Ruins Invitational. 269 395 410

The city also becomes a testing ground for magic-vehicle commercialization. Ben publicly launches his non-magical vehicle, Victory, after a carriage-track race, receiving massive orders by pricing it far below the expensive magic vehicles of established workshops. 295

Its commercial prominence later weakens as Drogo Group increasingly moves production elsewhere due to the city's high labor and material-transport costs. Under the Church's mandatory religious policies, fewer than one in ten shops on formerly bustling streets remain open, while games, Magic Vision, theaters, and other entertainment businesses lose most of their customers. 100 458

Transportation

  • Harbor — Receives ships and cargo subject to customs inspection. The city is reachable by newly operating steam-powered ships, though early models still require sails to supplement their engines. 3
  • Railway — The first railway to Holy Mountain reduces the journey from Twin Towers City to twenty-five hours. 15
  • Voyager — A newly operating train recognized by the city's residents and used as a major visual element in the Holy Mountain Journey trailer. 28
  • Nearby film-base island — An island five nautical miles southwest of the harbor is acquired for Drogo Film Studio after its kuo-toa inhabitants are manipulated into cooperating with construction. 18
  • Intercity teleportation — The city is connected to other Sutton locations through teleportation arrays, allowing rapid travel by residents, merchants, researchers, and political figures. 106 386
  • Traffic-rule pilot programDrogo promotes Twin Towers City as Feren's pilot city for traffic regulations and modern vehicle use, intending for other territories to imitate successful local rules. 297
  • Neverwinter expressway project — Twin Towers City and nearby Neverwinter City agree to construct an intercity expressway. 298

Story Role / Major Arcs

Drogo’s Commercial Expansion

Drogo and Aisha arrive with several thousand yo-yos and establish Drogo’s Toy Store on Cornflower Street. The city becomes the testing ground for yo-yo sales, comic promotion, gacha-style blind boxes, puzzle prizes, and illusion-based games. 3 4 5 10 13

As Drogo Group expands, its original shop evolves into Drogo Toy City, a flagship attraction that centralizes product displays, new-release previews, and fan-oriented retail experiences. 209

Magic Shadow Industry

Twin Towers City supplies the actors, audiences, theaters, magical talent, and commercial attention needed to develop Magic Shadow. The city hosts auditions for Holy Mountain Journey, its trailer screening at Twin Towers Arena, and the film's premiere. 20 28 31

The city later remains a cultural production center for animation and music, with its orchestras competing to score Tom and Jerry. Its theaters also sustain successful stage productions such as Cats. 163 214

Illusion-Magic Development

The city’s illusionists, scholars, craftspeople, and device manufacturers are assembled for projects including Hero Auto Chess and the Visual Inscription Workshop. Flynn Uman gathers renowned illusionists from across the continent in Twin Towers City to develop the workshop. 38 39 41 43

It subsequently serves as an early center for Magic Vision deployment, internet cafés, online forums, arcade devices, and consciousness-space gaming. 54 76 395

World Expo

The Twin Towers City World Expo brings foreign delegations, merchants, exhibitors, and tourists into the city. Drogo Group uses the event to promote its internet café, auto-battler games, Magic Vision-related products, and other cultural technologies. 54 61

The event also exposes the city's unequal presentation of prosperity: authorities conceal the Mixed District and refugee settlements behind decorative barriers while citywide businesses compete for tourist spending. 61

Corruption and the Violet Lily Investigation

The city’s underworld includes human trafficking, brainwashing, devil worship, illicit fighting, drugs, and gambling linked to Sir Baron and Mammon's followers. Drogo's citywide undead-camera surveillance exposes the operation, after which he assaults the fortified theater and kills Baron and the gathered purple-robed conspirators. 46 47 48

Baron justifies his crimes as necessary to Twin Towers City's peace, prosperity, and social order, but Drogo rejects this rationale before destroying the conspirators and their stage with dragon fire. 48

Superhero Culture and the Drider Incident

Inspired by Drogo Comics' Batman, Soren adopts the High Tower Hero identity and patrols the city at night, presenting himself as a masked defender of Twin Towers City's residents. His activities inspire a local bodybuilding and superhero-cosplay scene. 214 215

When Luo Lin arrives in the city, her arachne appearance triggers a public misunderstanding and a near-confrontation with Soren. Drogo intervenes to explain that she has come to serve as a mentor for Feren's Good Songs, after which Soren and Drogo work to reshape the media narrative around the incident. 215 216

Magic Vision Hacking Crisis

A hacked Magic Vision broadcast spreads an unfamiliar illusion and causes residents to attack one another indiscriminately. The resulting citywide chaos is followed by Drogo's intervention, which incapacitates the population long enough for organized squads to inspect districts and restore order. 225 226

The crisis leaves many citizens fearful of public spaces and worsens existing prejudice after some affected people become tieflings. 232

Tiefling Integration and Devil Cooperation

Twin Towers City becomes one of Sutton's pilot regions for cooperation with devils. Rather than recruiting devils into the city’s esports teams, which Grace recognizes would provoke public backlash, the city begins with a joint Criminal Psychology Institute under the Garrison Corps. 291

Drogo Group also recruits tieflings into supervised construction crews, assigning them municipal contracts and training while attempting to reduce crime and improve public perception. 249

Competitive Gaming and Children of Twin Towers

The city organizes and brands Children of Twin Towers as a local esports representative, using uniforms, interviews, merchandise, viewing events, and sponsorships to turn formerly internet-addicted youths into public figures. 269 270

After an early Red Alert defeat against a Devil team, the club becomes an established competitive institution. In the Guard the Ruins Invitational, Children of Twin Towers recover from a poor opening, use innovative fast-push and split-push strategies, defeat Hell Legion in the lower bracket, and finish second behind Deepwater Dragonkin. 395 400 401 406 410

Church Control and Economic Decline

Following later continental upheavals, the Church imposes mandatory prayer policies that disrupt normal work and leisure. The city's commercial streets become largely vacant, unemployment rises, and unemployed residents are seized for unpaid agricultural labor. 458

Soren continues to identify himself as the city's guardian during this period, supporting remaining physical businesses and covertly assisting resistance to Inquisition abuses. 458

Trivia

  • Twin Towers City has a reputation for expensive living costs; Yuno's sixty-copper-coin monthly stipend would be insufficient without dormitory housing. 13
  • The city’s roads are uneven cobblestones, rough enough to make Flynn's bicycle rattle as she rides through them. 38
  • Soren Ambrosius publicly styles himself with titles including “Guardian of Twin Towers City,” “King of Defensive Spells,” and “Red Dragon Resistance.” 11
  • Nine o'clock at night is considered the height of nightlife in the city, when major theater performances are generally underway. 214
  • The city has enough racial festivals that Drogo initially mistakes the Magic Vision hacking crisis for another ordinary celebration; one Orc festival involves releasing petrified bulls into public streets to chase unarmed participants. 225
  • Soren Tower became a tourist attraction largely because Soren postponed repairing its triggered defensive spells. 128
  • Twin Towers City household registration is highly coveted because of the city's wealth and opportunities. 304
