Background / History
Frederica is the illegitimate daughter of the old King Sutton. She grew up alongside Gerda, an abandoned minor noble’s daughter; although they are not blood sisters, they regard one another as family. Frederica was sent far from the royal center of power to govern the neglected Northern Frontier. 70
During the Twin Towers City Expo, Frederica initially travels under the cover of a merchant group. Her exposure to Drogo Group’s toys, Magic Shadows, and professional performers changes how she thinks about public support: culture and entertainment can earn people’s affection more directly than political promises. She subsequently seeks out Drogo to discuss changing the Northern Frontier’s image. 61 62 65
After returning north, she resolves to reform the region by raising an army, suppressing bandits, and making the territory stable enough to attract investment. Her first attempt to rally villagers fails, forcing her to accept that authority must be earned through concrete results rather than speeches. 70 71
Her anti-bandit campaign builds her reputation. Footage of her delivering a bandit leader’s head to a village and publicly trying another chief demonstrates both her effectiveness and an unexpected talent for cinematic composition. 77 100
Frederica’s reforms and public opposition to noble privilege make her a target. A former Royal Guard instructor attempts to assassinate her during a blizzard, but she identifies that he is targeting her alone and prioritizes evacuating Winterkeep’s civilians and children. 102 103
She eventually reveals her ultimate political goal to Gerda: not succession, but the complete disappearance of royal power. 101
Appearance
Frederica presents herself as a dignified princess, though she strongly prefers practical clothing and armor over restrictive noble formalwear. 331 373
- Willow-leaf brows and a naturally commanding expression. 61
- Often wears inner armor or light armor rather than ceremonial gowns. 62 373
- Favors an axe in combat. 103
- Rode a white horse at the Northern Frontier Legion’s entry into the Sutton royal capital. 384
Personality
Frederica is decisive, blunt, and intensely practical. She demands discipline from subordinates, reacts strongly to injustice, and initially mistrusts unfamiliar people and institutions. Her commanding manner can become impulsive, especially when she believes someone may be dangerous or corrupt. 61 62
Despite her martial temperament, she is capable of self-reflection. Her failed village speech teaches her that ideals without visible action are meaningless to people in crisis. She later struggles with the possibility that Drogo’s power could undermine the independence of the Northern Frontier, briefly withdrawing into isolation before returning to her duties. 71 108 133
She dislikes publicity and regards it as less meaningful than direct work, but she gradually accepts that public legitimacy is essential to reform and rebellion. 373
Frederica is also battle-loving. Rather than being intimidated by a highly skilled assassin, she is excited by the prospect of facing a worthy opponent. 102
Abilities & Skills
Barbarian Combat
Frederica’s actual class is Barbarian, contrasting with her outward image as a princess. She was trained in hand-to-hand combat and shooting by a Royal Guard instructor. 102 331
- Activates Rage and a selfless battle state when charging powerful enemies. 103
- Can close distance at a speed described as difficult for the naked eye to follow. 103
- Uses her axe to redirect gunfire and create openings for allied spellcasters. 103
- Is regarded as more efficient at cutting down enemies than many of her physically larger soldiers. 331
Military Command
Frederica develops the Northern Frontier Legion into a professional force built around discipline, modern equipment, literacy, and a shared purpose. 331 332
- Advocates for an army that serves the territory’s people rather than an individual lord. 332
- Recognizes that soldiers fight more effectively when defending their families, homeland, and own interests. 332
- Uses unconventional tactics, including dragons deploying spell grenades from high altitude to breach DeLong Fortress’s defenses. 370
- Plans operations to minimize civilian casualties, publicly guarantees safety for surrendering residents, and orders the Legion to target military facilities rather than loot or harm civilians. 371
- Understands the tactical value of intelligence, vision, positioning, and expendable units through her analysis of competitive games. 389
Political Reform
Frederica combines popular support, military strength, negotiation, and media strategy to dismantle the old feudal order. 373 374 375
- Suppresses bandit groups to establish public security and credibility. 71 100
- Seeks to abolish noble privilege while preserving enough face for nobles to accept negotiated reform. 374
- Forces northern nobles to sign a reform document stripping most of their privileges, then publicizes the event. 375
- Ends Sutton’s monarchy after taking the throne, instead establishing herself as Prime Minister under a new system with a ceremonial king and elected parliament. 384
Filmmaking
Frederica demonstrates a natural eye for filming despite having no prior experience with Magic Shadow. 77
- Her short films use deliberate composition rather than incidental footage. 77
- One film focuses on her silent return to a village after a battle, using the bandit leader’s severed head and bloodstains on her body to imply the events off-screen. 77
- Her filmed exploits later attract visitors to the Northern Frontier through Tracks in the Snowy Forest. 101
