Background

Dai Yunzhao acquired Shadow through one of the three Hextech options he selected after transmigrating: a shadow puppet at the Soul Emperor level. Unlike an ordinary puppet, Shadow possesses consciousness, but his loyalty to Dai Yunzhao is absolute. 1 10

For six years, Shadow remained part of Dai Yunzhao's concealed strength while the prince feigned disability. When Dai Weisi's six Soul Emperor guards attempted to intervene in the brothers' conflict, Shadow emerged from hiding and slaughtered all six with his daggers and shadow movement. 3

Shadow initially believed his puppet nature made advancement beyond Soul Emperor impossible. Dai Yunzhao instead used his War King authority to grant him the Golden Iron Beast martial soul, allowing him to shatter the Level 69 ceiling and become a Soul Saint. 10 14

Appearance

Shadow is a large, heavily built armored figure whose face remains concealed beneath dark armor. His presence is commonly compared to an iron tower, though he can vanish into even the smallest shadows. 4 8 11

Personality

Shadow is quiet, direct, and highly literal. His speech is usually limited to tactical observations, confirmations of Dai Yunzhao's commands, or concise declarations of intent. He can be confused by figurative language, such as when Dai Yunzhao explains a baiting strategy or jokes about becoming an assassin. 10 16

His defining trait is absolute devotion to Dai Yunzhao. He consistently places himself between Dai Yunzhao and danger, including against Zhu Family forces, the Three Gorges Pass defenders, and Dugu Bo's poison barrier. Dai Yunzhao regards him as family—the one companion who stayed at his side when his blood relatives sought his death. 8 10 23

Shadow Warrior Martial Soul

Shadow's true martial soul is the Shadow Warrior, not merely a shadow. It combines stealth, mobility, and lethal dagger combat. 20

• Travels through existing shadows and can use the shadow of objects as small as a fallen leaf for concealment. 11
• Produces black mist to create shadows when the environment lacks them. 10

Palace Conflict

Shadow first reveals himself when Dai Weisi's guards move to save the First Prince. He kills all six Soul Emperors, then accompanies Dai Yunzhao back to the imperial hall after Dai Weisi's defeat. 3 4

Zhu Family Interception

When Zhu Zhuyun brings elite Zhu Family forces to stop Dai Yunzhao, Shadow faces a force including seven Soul Emperors and three Soul Saints. Rather than meet the formation directly, he moves through their shadows and captures Zhu Zhuyun. 8 9

Star Dou Forest Breakthrough

Shadow accompanies Dai Yunzhao into the Star Dou Forest, serving as scout, transport, protector, and executioner while Dai Yunzhao acts as bait. Dai Yunzhao grants him the Golden Iron Beast spirit, after which Shadow hunts and absorbs the rings needed to reach Soul Saint. 10 14

Three Gorges Pass

Shadow helps set and execute the ambush on Dai Mubai's party. He confronts the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy's three chiefs, reveals his dual martial souls and Martial Soul True Body, and incapacitates Flender and Zhao Wuji despite sustaining injuries himself. 19 20 22

Imperial Palace Operations

During Dai Yunzhao's consolidation of Star Luo, Shadow carries out covert tasks: spreading untraceable rumors about Tang San's family, hiding Dai Yunzhao within a painting's shadow, and protecting him from assassins within the palace. 28 29 30
