Background and History

Konoha is a major ninja village of the Land of Fire. Its southern district includes connected residences assigned to war orphans—children whose parents were Konoha ninja killed in service. The village raises these children collectively and trains them to become shinobi; the Aokawa Clan residence was one such assigned home. 1 42

The village operates a Ninja Academy, where children study before graduating as genin. Tianming was enrolled after Hiruzen Sarutobi learned that his former inability to sense chakra had changed. 3

Orochimaru's Infiltration and Konoha Crush

Masked ninja sent by Orochimaru infiltrated the area around Hokage Rock, where their attempt to seize Tianming drew Hiruzen Sarutobi and ANBU into action. 1 2

Konoha hosted the Chunin Exams with the Third Hokage, village officials, the allied Kazekage, and Sand Village representatives in attendance. While the examinations proceeded, Sound and Sand forces positioned outside and within the village began their operation. 48 49

Orochimaru's forces used Mass Hypnosis to incapacitate spectators, erected the Four Violet Flames Formation around Hiruzen, and attacked Konoha across multiple defensive lines. Konoha's ANBU and shinobi fought the invading Sound and Sand forces throughout the village. 56

The conflict ended with Hiruzen's death in battle after he used the Reaper Death Seal on Orochimaru's arms. Konoha suffered substantial casualties and damage to its outskirts, while surviving forces began repairing destroyed homes and streets. 61

Fifth Hokage Era

Following Hiruzen's death, Konoha's advisors first pressed Jiraiya to become the Fifth Hokage, but he refused and instead sought Tsunade. 62 Tsunade ultimately returned to Konoha as the Fifth Hokage after confronting Orochimaru and Kabuto. 77

Her early tenure was marked by internal pressure, including dissatisfaction among some villagers, financial shortfalls, and Sasuke Uchiha's defection with Orochimaru's subordinates. 84

Hokage Rock

Hokage Rock stands behind the Hokage Office in Konoha's northern area. It bears the carved faces of Konoha's past Hokage and is regarded as a sacred spiritual symbol of the village. 1 2

Hokage Office

The Hokage Office serves as the center of village administration and mission assignment. Hiruzen used it to review ANBU intelligence, meet ninja teams, and coordinate responses to threats such as Orochimaru's suspected infiltration. 2 9 44

Ninja Academy

The Ninja Academy educates prospective shinobi before their graduation as genin. It also served as the Chunin Exams' initial check-in location. 3 21

Konoha Hospital

Konoha Hospital treats injured shinobi, including Sasuke after his exposure to Orochimaru's Cursed Seal and later Tsunade after the side effects of the Strength of a Hundred Technique. 42 77
