Background

Huang Bai was originally a mountaineering enthusiast who attempted the Aotai Line. Caught in lethal weather and unable to distinguish illusion from reality, he took shelter in a mountain temple. He awoke in the ancient Heavenly Dao Temple, where he no longer felt hunger, thirst, fatigue, heat, or cold, and discovered that he could leave only when the Heavenly Dao Talisman Edict issued a task. 2

Rather than despair over his apparent death or displacement, Huang Bai decided to treat it as a new life and pursue its “bizarre and dazzling” adventures. His earliest priority was overcoming the weakness of an ordinary mortal body, leading him to study the external-alchemy texts, elixirs, and ritual sword found in his suitcase. 2

The Heavenly Dao Talisman Edict sends him into different worlds with specific missions. In his first documented mission, he uses foreknowledge and modern police firepower to stop Xie Yali’s corpse-liberation ritual, then returns to the temple after receiving confirmation that the demon extermination was complete. 1

Huang Bai’s cultivation remains centered on external alchemy even after he acquires talismans, spirit-soldier arts, and thunder magic. He considers spells to be external methods and repeatedly seeks ancient pills, mineral medicines, and alchemical inheritances to strengthen both his body and his path toward immortality. 51 57 128

His long-term objective is not merely to abandon his mortal shell, but to pursue the dual cultivation of nature and life: a path in which the physical body, soul, cultivation, and divine abilities all advance together. Huang Bai is compassionate toward victims of ghosts and curses, offering Yang Feng employment and shelter, purifying the resentful remains in King Xian’s tomb, and giving the twin vicious ghosts a path out of torment as spirit soldiers. 42 46 70 However, he can also be ruthless in pursuit of a necessary objective, including killing criminals to fulfill the five sacrifices required for corpse liberation. 18

Although he accepts reverence as Huang Tian, he does not intend to permanently rule the worlds he saves. When leaving the First Commandment world, he explicitly entrusts humanity’s future to the Demon-Slaying Bureau instead of attempting to eradicate every future vengeful ghost himself. 106

His pursuit of cultivation is notably broad-minded. Huang Bai does not reject an art merely because it belongs to an enemy lineage or an unfamiliar system; instead, he studies its principles, identifies its restrictions, and seeks to retain its useful essence while discarding its dangers. 202

Huang Tian’s Return

Huang Bai returns to the First Commandment world after three years and finds the Demon-Slaying Bureau near collapse. He kills Ghost Kings, heals his surviving companions, openly exposes the existence of vicious ghosts, and rebuilds the Bureau as an international organization. 96 97 100 101

He ultimately leaves the world’s defense to its people, supplying them with ghost detectors, talismans, the First Commandment Sword, and institutional support rather than attempting to eliminate every future ghost. 106

Yellow Heaven Lineage and Feathered Ascension

In the Great Tang Tianbao era, Huang Bai becomes master of the Golden Register Daoist Sanctuary, founds the Yellow Heaven Lineage, and leads a revival of Daoist alchemy and talisman arts. 123 124

After more than thirty years in that world, he completes his Golden Elixir, flies with his physical body, and leaves Zhao Guizhen the means to preserve the lineage. 134

Later Cultivation

Huang Bai continues to refine thunder arts, obtain the completed Sixteen-Character Yin-Yang Feng Shui Secret Art, and develop toward a full Feathered Person transformation. 147 152 160

By the time he returns to Bottle Mountain, he can fly with white wings, command powerful talismans and formations, and is recognized by Hu Bayi’s group as an Earth Immortal-like figure. 164 166

Pangu Corpse Vein and the Penglai Immortal Kingdom

In his conflict with the Fang Immortal Way and the Queen Mother of the West’s agents, Huang Bai completes the second Returning Elixir and becomes a Solar Feathered Man. He uses his feathered body, thunder arts, Son of Heaven Qi-Gazing Art, and Liu Bowen’s Dragon-Slaying Technique against the Five Virtues Immortal-Sealing Formation. 180

During the Three Kingdoms mission, Huang Bai supports Zhang Jue and the Way of Great Peace against the Hate-Heaven Kingdom. After returning to the Twin-Pupil World, Huang Bai performs Fire-Liberation Ascension for Lingmiao and builds temples to support Lingzhen and Lingmiao’s Dharma Forms. After briefly infiltrating the Queen Mother’s Kingdom in a transformed Luan Bird form, Huang Bai enters the martial world of Twin Dragons of the Great Tang to obtain the Four Great Secret Books and gather qi-and-blood resources for later Returning Elixirs. 224 225

He saves the Dongming Faction, transforms it into the Donghai Immortal Gate and Dongming Trading Company, and begins moving against the Demonic Sect while seeking to reunify the Daoist School. 226 227
