Background / History

Argeleia attended Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw student. From the outset, she was openly hostile toward Hoffa Bach after he demonstrated exceptional Transfiguration talent; she sabotaged his Herbology work and mocked him in Astronomy. Her competitiveness extended to academic standing, particularly when other students earned recognition that she believed should be hers 14 18.

Potions became her principal domain. Argeleia impressed Horace Slughorn by identifying and proposing improvements to his displayed potions, earning an invitation to an upper-year dinner. She later brewed a magic-restoration potion in class to prove her superiority to Hoffa, though Slughorn prevented her from completing its final ratio 17 39.

Her rivalry with Hoffa escalated when she discovered his secret potion-making and took his potion vial. The two fought repeatedly over it, but Argeleia abandoned the dispute to study centaur writing in the Forbidden Forest. She translated the centaurs’ message as an impression of “panic, murder, and war,” while explaining that their writing conveys feelings rather than exact information 40 41.

During the ensuing attack by dark wizards and magical creatures, Argeleia and Hoffa were forced to cooperate. Argeleia eventually joined the dragon-training group and formed a bond with a Welsh Green Dragon named Elizabeth. While caring for Fatir in the Scottish moors, Argeleia maintained control over a dragon pack despite exhaustion and injury. After the Horntail later challenged her again, Jacob rescued her and subdued the pack 185.

Argeleia learned that “Uncle Jacob” was actually Gellert Grindelwald, Fatir’s former student. When Grindelwald warned her that Hoffa would die within a week, she rejected Fatir’s attempt to send her away and escaped using an illusion created through Protego Totalum to return to Hogwarts 186.

At the Black Lake, Argeleia followed Hoffa into the water after his suicide attempt. She nearly drowned while trying to rescue him, but after a giant squid brought them ashore, she revived him and persuaded him to keep living 191. Years later, Hoffa encountered her as an indifferent ghost in Helheim, where she created temporary bodies for other ghosts 319. Argeleia is proud, confrontational, and intensely competitive. She expects to excel, reacts badly to being surpassed, and frequently mocks people she considers less capable. Her curiosity is equally intense. She abandoned a valuable potion dispute to investigate centaur writing, eagerly pursued an obscure library rumor, and refused to leave when the missing dragons and students were in danger 41 101 176.
