The tent remained silent for a long time.
In the end, Kaguya Wuzhan said nothing and turned to leave.
Madara did not try to stop him. Although the Uchiha and Kaguya Clan were allies, he did not have much personal friendship with Kaguya Wuzhan. Helping was a favor; refusing was only natural. Even if Kaguya Izui had been here, he would have refused all the same.
Madara knew what Kaguya Wuzhan intended to do next. He might hit a wall, suffer for it, or even humiliate himself, but his life would not be in danger.
After all, Kaguya Wuzhan's strength was there for all to see. Even if someone from the clan leader's generation made a move, they could not keep him if he was determined to leave.
"Did he reach some sort of agreement with Lord Madara?"
Watching Kaguya Wuzhan vanish into the night, several Uchiha standing watch fell into thought.
Outside the valley.
The brothers Hashirama and Tobirama personally stood watch while a large number of Senju Clan members rested in the camp behind them.
"It's already so late. Neither reinforcements nor enemies should be coming," Tobirama said, stretching.
Hashirama nodded in agreement. Then he suddenly saw a figure emerge from the dense forest.
The man had long silver hair and a cold, handsome face. He walked beneath the moonlight, utterly alone and looking as lonely as could be.
"Kaguya Wuzhan!"
Hashirama recognized him at once, and his expression immediately turned wary. He thought the Kaguya Clan's reinforcements had arrived to launch a nighttime attack.
Kaguya Wuzhan stopped and swept his gaze over the two of them before finally settling it on Hashirama.
"Hashirama Senju, bring out Ashina."
Ashina?
Hashirama froze and instinctively replied, "Ashina isn't—"
"Ashina is resting in the camp with his clansmen," Tobirama cut in. "What do you want with him?"
At the same time, he quietly explained to his not-so-sharp older brother:
"He came to probe our situation. Don't let him find out the Uzumaki Clan isn't here, or he'll immediately join forces with Madara to attack."
Hashirama suddenly understood. That had been close—he had nearly fallen into the trap.
"Ashina killed my younger sister. I have something to say to him," Kaguya Wuzhan said.
Tobirama vaguely understood. This guy was not here to talk to Ashina. He was clearly here for revenge.
"Everyone is enemies on the battlefield. Whoever kills whom is perfectly normal. If you have something to say, wait until we officially meet on the battlefield and say it to Ashina then!" he said, driving him away.
Kaguya Wuzhan flew into a rage. He had left his clan's forces behind and come to the Ninjasteel Mine ahead of time precisely because he wanted to kill Ashina before the decisive battle. Who would have thought that simply meeting Ashina would prove so difficult?
If Uchiha Madara had agreed to cover him, he could have launched a night raid and killed Ashina amid the chaos. But Uchiha Madara had refused him, and he did not dare charge into the enemy camp alone.
"Ashina, are you really going to be a coward hiding with his head in his shell?!"
Kaguya Wuzhan poured chakra into his voice and roared. His voice thundered in all directions.
The Senju Clan members in the camp were instantly awakened and entered combat readiness.
"I'm telling you, you can't escape!" Kaguya Wuzhan continued to roar, venting all the anger and hatred he had accumulated over these days.
"Others may be able to protect you for a while, but they can't protect you forever! Even if you hide at the ends of the earth, I'll still kill you!"
Inside a pit somewhere, Shusen poked his head out and coldly watched Kaguya Wuzhan spout off in the distance. Killing intent stirred within him.
Kaguya Wuzhan was practically cursed to clash with him. He had first targeted him because of Hyuga Rika, and now he was targeting his younger brother Ashina. This man was extremely dangerous.
"What are you shouting for?!" Tobirama snapped.
Kaguya Wuzhan ignored him and continued his monologue. "Ashina, I know what you're thinking. You want to hide in Whirlpool Village after this battle ends, until the day you become an elite jonin."
"But I'm telling you, don't even dream of living in peace. I'm going to kill you, and even Ryū can't stop me!"
"Once you return, I'll send a large number of assassins into Whirlpool Village. I might even disguise myself and infiltrate it personally. As long as I'm alive, you won't know peace for a single day! The same goes for your brother, Uzumaki Shusen!"
Shusen's eyebrows twitched involuntarily.
He recalled the guard squad member who had tried to assassinate him some days ago. He believed Kaguya Wuzhan was truly capable of doing everything he had just said.
If he alone were being targeted, it would be nothing. But Kaguya Wuzhan had set his sights on Ashina. Shusen could not afford to take that lightly.
In less than a moment, Shusen had made his decision.
Kaguya Wuzhan had to die!
No matter the reason, he had to die!
Never underestimate how fiercely a brother-con would protect his younger brother.
After struggling to survive in the Warring States Era for so many years, this was the first time Shusen had felt such intense killing intent toward someone.
"Big brother, hit him!"
Tobirama could not hold back any longer. His hands rapidly formed seals.
"Water Release: Water Severing Wave Technique!"
A stream of water shot from his mouth. Kaguya Wuzhan flashed aside, and the razor-sharp water carved a deep gash into the ground.
"Wood Release: Hotei Technique."
Hashirama unleashed a ninjutsu as well, except he had no need to form seals. He simply slammed both hands onto the ground, and whatever he called for came forth.
Countless giant wooden hands burst from the earth and reached for Kaguya Wuzhan from every direction.
With no room to evade, Kaguya Wuzhan pulled out his spinal bone and shredded the wooden hands into splinters. Then he turned and fled without hesitation.
He had said what he came to say. There was no benefit in staying any longer. Kaguya Wuzhan had achieved his objective, certain that he had planted deep fear in Ashina's heart. From now on, Ashina would surely live in constant dread.
"Tobirama, should we chase him?" Hashirama hesitated.
He was rather inconsistent. He had not pursued Uchiha Madara after defeating him during the day, yet now he did not want to let Kaguya Wuzhan leave.
If Mito were here, she would probably fight Kaguya Wuzhan to the death without rest, wouldn't she?
Tobirama shook his head. "No. He might be setting an ambush to lure us out."
"Kaguya Wuzhan is a lunatic. Ashina has landed himself in serious trouble by earning his hatred. We should remind Mito the next time we see her."
Although Tobirama had never met Ashina, he still worried for him. He felt that Ashina and his second older brother, Uzumaki Shusen, were truly a pair of fellow sufferers, both hopelessly entangled with Kaguya Wuzhan.
Kaguya Wuzhan's taijutsu was superb. After only a few leaps, he vanished from sight. Even if Hashirama wanted to pursue and kill him now, he could no longer catch up.
Meanwhile, Shusen used Kagura's Mind's Eye to firmly lock onto his presence and followed him underground.
He was not joking about his decision.
Tonight, Kaguya Wuzhan was as good as dead!
Not even the Sage of Six Paths could save him.
He said so.
After sprinting several miles at full speed and confirming he was far from Hashirama's camp, Kaguya Wuzhan gradually slowed down.
Though he had failed to kill Ashina as he wished, the thought of Ashina living in fear of him still gave Kaguya Wuzhan immense satisfaction.
Sometimes, killing someone was not the best form of revenge.
Letting an enemy live in a nightmare for a long time, tormented by fear, was not bad either.
Afterward, Kaguya Wuzhan planned to rejoin his clansmen. Having just been rebuffed by Uchiha Madara, there was no way he would go back and seek him out again.
