Background

Mito's mother died shortly after Ashina's birth, leaving her father, Ryū, occupied with clan affairs. Although only five at the time, Mito raised Shusen and Ashina with the care of both an older sister and a mother. When five-year-old Shusen was sent to the battlefield during an Uzumaki Clan crisis, Mito stayed beside him and protected him until the clan survived the war. 6

Her exceptional growth made her the Uzumaki Clan's foremost young talent. By eighteen, she was an elite jōnin renowned among the major clans for her beauty, combat ability, and Adamantine Sealing Chains. 5

During the imperial-capital ceasefire negotiations, Kaguya Wuzhan targeted Shusen over Hyuga Rika. Mito immediately intervened, offering to fight him herself; Hashirama and Tobirama's arrival ultimately forced Wuzhan to withdraw. 24 25

Mito later became sworn siblings with Hashirama, Tobirama, and Shusen. Hashirama was named the eldest sibling, Mito the second sister, Tobirama the third, and Shusen the fourth. 26 Her bond with Hashirama developed into marriage, strengthening the Senju–Uzumaki alliance; she was later revealed to be pregnant with their child. 57 60 79

By the time her son Zongzhen was school-aged, Mito was living in Konoha with her family. Though nearly thirty, the Yin Seal preserved her youthful complexion. She remained closely involved in Shusen's life, including welcoming Nanami as a potential future sister-in-law. 178 224

Personality

Mito is mature, protective, and deeply family-oriented. She took responsibility for raising her younger brothers after their mother's death and continued to worry over Shusen long into adulthood. She is quick to scold him for reckless behavior, but also personally treats his injuries and defends him from threats. 6 24 62

Despite her battlefield reputation, she has a reserved and easily flustered side, particularly around Hashirama. She initially considered the blood-sworn-sibling ritual absurd, yet accepted it after seeing the others' expectations. 25 26 She is also observant enough that Shusen notices when she is too distracted to realize she is reading a book upside down. 24
