Background / History

Lin Nan is a twenty-year-old transmigrant from modern Earth who awakens in the body of a destitute White Snake Martial School apprentice. The original body’s reputation was poor: it had accumulated debts, frequented Drunken Spring Pavilion, and squandered its income on jade talismans and entertainment. Lin Nan inherited its danger as well—the nightly attention of a Corpse Ghost and a debt to Scar Lord of the Blood Blade Sect. 1 3

His greatest advantage is the Creation Furnace, a crimson furnace that followed him from Earth into his sea of consciousness. By refining Yin-evil energy from demons, ghosts, cursed objects, and even contaminated flesh, it converts danger into Yin Energy Points and martial proficiency. 1 3

After trapping and killing the Corpse Ghost haunting his lodging with blood talismans, Lin Nan used the Furnace to break into the Blood-Qi Realm. He registered as an inner disciple of the White Snake Martial School, gaining income, temporary sanctuary, and protection from ordinary evil entities. 2 3 4

Scar Lord attempted to extort him with a falsified debt. Lin Nan used his new inner-disciple token to force the gangsters to retreat, then secretly killed Scar Lord that night. This drew the attention of Scar Lord’s cousin, Tu Kui, Hall Master of the Blood Blade Sect’s Execution Hall. Lin Nan denied responsibility and remained under White Snake Martial School protection while cultivating in secrecy. 5 6 17

During the Withered Locust Village mission, Lin Nan exposed the mission leader Peng Huo as a murderer connected to the village’s destruction. He killed Peng Huo and escaped the village with Yu Qianqian when an unknown malevolent force emerged. Later, he discovered that everyone but him had forgotten the mission and several participants entirely, leading him to conceal the incident and postpone further investigation. 12 13 19

Li Nianru and Elder Yu recruited Lin Nan into the Martial Alliance as an Earth Guard, exploiting his lack of powerful family ties and his ability to conceal himself. He infiltrated the Blessed Life Cult under the name “Zhong Jing,” discovered its worship statue emitted sinister aura, and helped expose its use of abducted women in an attempt to cultivate and control a Night Fetus. 22 23 26 40 42

After failing admission tests at Black Serpent, Split Mountain, and Clear Proclamation Martial Schools due to “inferior aptitude,” Lin Nan joined True Yang Temple, whose demon-hunting mission aligned with his need to confront evil entities. He later became a true disciple, then was acknowledged as True Yang Temple’s Eldest Senior Brother after killing Mo Chunsheng, Yuan Xu, Mo Ming, and the Mo Family attackers within the temple. 44 45 48 76 92

He frequently conceals his true strength, lies convincingly when survival requires it, and treats powerful factions with wary politeness rather than open defiance. His denial of Scar Lord’s murder and his performance as a Blessed Life Cult believer demonstrate his ability to remain composed under scrutiny. 17 22 24

Despite his ruthlessness, he retains a moral boundary. He is disturbed by human trafficking, missing women, and the Blessed Life Cult’s sacrifice of captives. He distinguishes himself from murderers such as Peng Huo, stating that he would not kill first without cause. 7 14 42

His desire for strength originates in fear and survival rather than ambition alone. He initially wants to cultivate “until I feel safe enough,” but later defines his martial will as creating peace through overwhelming strength so that demons, monsters, and evil entities cannot threaten his life. 18 85
