Background / History

Fu Lin is Elder Fu's niece and a member of one of Black Dragon City's four great families. As the commandant of the Outer City, she oversees a poor, dangerous buffer zone between the wilderness and the Inner City, where stray evil spirits can enter. She explains that the Inner City recruits promising Outer City disciples each year to preserve the future of martial arts. 35 38

After Lin Nan wins the Laba Festival competition, Fu Lin receives him, Zhong Jing, and Ding Qianyu at her residence. She offers the three victors a choice between becoming family stewards, entering an Inner City martial school, or joining the Fu Family's Valiant Cavalry Army. 38

The Blessed Life Cult ambushes the gathering with sleeping incense and captures Fu Lin as the final Yin-Hour Maiden needed for its ritual. While imprisoned, she remains defiant toward the cult's vice leader. Lin Nan secretly frees her during Li Nianru's assault on the cult headquarters; after regaining a portion of her qi and blood, Fu Lin breaks her cage with Stone-Splitting Fist and leads the other captives to safety. 38 39 40

Following the cult's downfall, Fu Lin interrogates Zhong Jing as a suspected mole and arranges to take Lin Nan to the Inner City for martial-school examinations. She is also forceful and capable of ruthlessness. Convinced Zhong Jing may be a Blessed Life Cult mole, she permits his brutal interrogation and orders that he be taken to the dungeon when he continues denying it. 43

Despite her stern command style, Fu Lin supports capable people outside the Inner City's elite circles. She personally recommends Lin Nan for an Inner City school examination, accompanies him through multiple rejections, and helps him find an alternative path at True Yang Temple. 44 45
