Background / History

True Yang Temple was once counted among Black Dragon City’s four great martial schools. Its martial arts were reputedly stronger than those of the other three schools and were particularly effective against demons and evil entities. It became the principal force behind the Inner City’s demon-clearing missions. 45

The temple declined as the authorities assigned it an increasing number of dangerous demon-related missions. Prospective disciples avoided its Demon Hunting Team, while many existing disciples were injured and saw their cultivation delayed. The temple eventually lacked even outer disciples and struggled to cover injured disciples’ medical expenses. 45

Despite this decline, Yan Jingqiu maintained that, as long as she lived, True Yang Temple would remain Black Dragon City’s fourth great martial school. Its status and surviving inheritances made it a target for the Mo Family and Yuan Xu, who sought its untransmitted techniques. 47

Lin Nan joined the temple after Black Serpent, Split Mountain, and Clear Proclamation Martial Schools rejected him over his aptitude and bone structure. True Yang Temple accepted him because it valued a righteous heart and clear spiritual platform over innate physique. 45 48

Location and Layout

True Yang Temple is built within a narrow valley formed by two mountains at Black Dragon City’s southern gap.

  • A gray-tiled Taoist compound with upturned eaves and a vermilion mountain gate bearing the name “True Yang Temple.” 45
  • A bluestone path leads from the entrance to the main hall, which is flanked by two locust trees. 45
  • The rear courtyard contains disciple quarters. 48
  • The Duty Hall lies north of the temple; its task-record stone tablet lists completed assignments and determines rewards and contribution points. 53
  • During the corpse-tide crisis, the temple’s walls were heightened and covered with Jade Talismans and Blood Talismans, turning the compound into a defensive stronghold. 87 88

  • Has three stages: Morning Dawn, Zenith, and Setting Glow. 48
  • Requires practitioners to refine True Yang Origin Qi in the dantian at dawn. 48
  • Produces a faint luminous force and is especially suited to fighting demons and evil entities. 48

Thirty-Six Forms of True Yang Evil-Breaking Fist

The temple’s demon-slaying fist art, used alongside the True Yang Illuminating Origin Technique. 48

  • Contains twelve martial-warrior forms and twenty-four martial-master forms. 52

Trivia

  • True Yang Temple’s entrance test ostensibly requires only a righteous heart and clear spiritual platform; Yan Jingqiu initially joked that applicants must be virgins before immediately withdrawing the requirement. 45
  • The temple’s poor finances became so severe that Yan Ling personally swept the courtyard because it could not afford to hire help. 45
  • Its proximity to the Thin-Mist Defense Line makes it both a crucial defensive position and a frequent target of demon-related danger. 45 87
