Background / History

Hidden Spirit Manor

Han Luo led a nine-person expedition into Hidden Spirit Manor to rescue his cousin Bai Shu, the daughter of Black Dragon City Lord Bai Yunfeng. Previous search parties had entered the manor without returning 70.

When attempts to escape failed, he directed the party farther inside. In the mourning hall, he sought Lin Nan’s assessment before consulting the martial schools’ leaders, then accepted his proposal to divide the party between keeping vigil and investigating outside 71 72.

The manor’s deceptive rules initially left Han Luo unable to identify the entity’s true form. He eventually supported abandoning the mourning hall and helped expose the paper effigies. During the final confrontation, his Six Ding, Six Jia, Soul-Sealing Edict restrained the paper warriors while Lin Nan attacked the Yin-Paper House’s central phantom 73 74 75.

The survivors found Bai Shu unconscious in a blackwood coffin. Han Luo took her home and promised to expedite the mission rewards 75.

Imprisonment and Escape

Immediately after returning to the City Lord’s estate, Han Luo was imprisoned by Bai Yunfeng and nearly sacrificed to the Blessed Life Mother. Bai Yunfeng had secretly orchestrated the city’s supernatural disturbances and murdered his own wife and daughter 96 105.

The Golden-Wing Commander held Bai Yunfeng back while Han Luo was rescued. Li Nianru subsequently carried the weakened exorcist to Lin Nan’s evacuation party. Upon regaining consciousness, Han Luo confirmed that Bai Yunfeng intended to use the Lunar Baleful-Transformation Art to become an Evil Spirit 96 97.

Because he was the weakest member of the group, Han Luo followed directly behind Lin Nan during the escape through the fog. The Jade Talismans he had drawn remained intact even as most of the others attached to the party’s rope crumbled 97.

Wilderness Journey

As his condition improved, Han Luo resumed making protective talismans and established a safe campsite. He also explained the bloodline requirements of talisman-making to Lin Nan 98.

During the journey through the Invasion Zone, he examined a suddenly decapitated traveler and considered whether the group had triggered an Evil Spirit’s killing rule. Against the giant spider monster, he offered long-range Resentment Talismans, while acknowledging that they could not reliably kill such a large target alone 99 100.

After the escape from the Blood Corpse village, Han Luo created another temporary safe zone and used a Blood Talisman to detoxify those who had eaten contaminated food. Eight victims nevertheless died. His warnings and knowledge of the Blood Corpses’ weakness helped the remaining travelers survive 102.

At the official road’s fork, he chose Jiangzhou Prefecture rather than the nearer Yanmen City, continuing with Lin Nan, Li Nianru, and Liu Feng’s group 102 103.

Return to the Han Family

After reaching Jiangzhou Prefecture, Han Luo revealed that his ancestral family was one of the capital’s renowned great clans. The family had written to his branch half a year earlier, but his aunt’s attachment to Bai Yunfeng had delayed their return 105.

He resolved to report Bai Yunfeng’s crimes to the family head and seek vengeance for his aunt. After exchanging addresses with Lin Nan, he left their inn to return to the Han Family 105.

Rejoining his family brought greater wealth and comfort. He continued meeting Lin Nan and Liu Feng, urging Lin Nan to enjoy Jiangzhou’s safety rather than pursue dangerous work involving demons and Evil Spirits 107.

Appearance

Han Luo initially appears pale, thin, and frail, wearing gray robes and coughing repeatedly into a handkerchief 70.

  • Worsened pallor: After his imprisonment, he is even paler than during the manor mission and struggles to stand 97.
  • Weight changes: His refusal to eat the supply stations’ duck leaves him noticeably thinner during the journey 103.
  • Recovery in Jiangzhou: Several days of abundant meals restore his weight; his cheeks become fuller after returning to his wealthy ancestral family 105 107.

Personality

Han Luo is receptive to sound reasoning regardless of status. At Hidden Spirit Manor, he asks the relatively unobtrusive Lin Nan for his opinion and adopts his proposed division of responsibilities. He also admits when he cannot explain a supernatural occurrence rather than pretending certainty 72 99.

He is stubborn about personal preferences: during the journey to Jiangzhou, he refuses the local soy-braised duck and insists on eating only his own dry rations. Once safely settled, he embraces good food and a comfortable lifestyle 103 105 107.

His concern for family becomes fierce anger after Bai Yunfeng’s betrayal. He intends to mobilize the Han Family against the former city lord, while his advice to Lin Nan favors marriage, children, and peaceful living over further danger 105 107.

Abilities & Skills

Spirit Blood and Talisman-Making

Han Luo’s exorcist abilities depend on his inherited spirit blood. He mixes a drop of his blood with cinnabar, black dog blood, and other pure-yang substances to prepare talisman materials 98.

  • Produces Blood Talismans on yellow paper and inscribes Jade Talismans 98.
  • Arranges eight Jade Talismans in the directions Kan, Gen, Zhen, Xun, Li, Kun, Dui, and Qian, creating a temporary safe zone 98.
  • Explains that copying the patterns or using prepared cinnabar is insufficient: the effective runes must be drawn by Spirit Exorcists 98.
  • Uses a Blood Talisman to detoxify poisoned travelers, though the treatment cannot save every victim 102.

Six Ding, Six Jia, Soul-Sealing Edict

This technique manifests black qi that binds and lifts hostile paper figures; some weaker figures burst into scraps 75.

  • Restrains more than twenty paper warriors during the fight against the Yin-Paper House 75.
  • Requires substantial effort when controlling that many targets; Han Luo calls for his companions to reduce the pressure on him 75.
  • Lin Nan detects traces of sinister yin energy in its operation 75.

Resentment Talismans

Han Luo uses Resentment Talismans for restraint and ranged attacks 74 100.

  • A talisman releases gray ripples that immobilize the paper imitation of Zhu Qian, allowing Yan Ling to strike it 74.
  • Can travel more than one hundred meters 100.
  • Lacks sufficient power to guarantee killing the enormous spider monster by itself 100.

Supernatural Knowledge

Han Luo supplies practical information about evil entities and their behavior 73 99 102.

  • Explains that strange-type evil entities have an origin manifested within visible objects, including plants or pieces of wood 73.
  • Considers rule-triggered killing when investigating an unexplained death in the forest 99.
  • Warns the evacuation party about Blood Corpses and helps them understand the creatures’ weakness 102.
  • Identifies the Lunar Baleful-Transformation Art as a method for turning humans into Evil Spirits 97.
