Background / History

Yan Jingqiu began cultivating Daoism at ten and martial arts at thirteen. Though her vitality and blood declined with age, her former reputation as Black Dragon City’s foremost expert still deterred others from testing her strength 47.

As master of True Yang Temple, she recruits Lin Nan into its Demon Hunting Team and personally teaches him the True Yang Illuminating Origin Technique. When he describes the strange events at Withered Locust Village, she identifies the likely presence of a Third-Order Evil Spirit 48.

Yan Jingqiu later investigates the village herself. She encounters Cold Mountain, a powerful Evil Spirit known as a Yaksha or Ghost King, and escapes after only a few exchanges, gravely wounded by yin poison 93. Lin Nan draws away more than half the poison, allowing her to suppress what remains, but the approaching mist leaves little time for recovery 94.

Appearance

Yan Jingqiu is a middle-aged Daoist nun with delicate features and faint wrinkles at the corners of her eyes 65.

Personality

Yan Jingqiu is usually gentle with her disciples: she spends an afternoon teaching Lin Nan and urges him not to rush the conversion of his cultivation 48. When evidence exposes Yuan Xu’s abuse of authority, she hears the accusations and disciplines him despite their long history as master and disciple 66. Even while gravely ill, she warns others not to approach her infectious poison and directs them to leave the endangered city 93.

True Yang martial arts

• Teaches the True Yang Illuminating Origin Technique, including its Dawn Glow, Zenith, and Sunset Radiance levels, and explains its use alongside the Thirty-Six Forms of the True Yang Evil-Breaking Fist 48.
