Cosmology and Natural Order
Heavenly Dao
The Primordial World is a realm of vast, resonant laws, innate spiritual energy, and karmic order. Its Heavenly Dao governs the balance of fortune, merit, calamity, and the rise and fall of races. After Hongjun merged with the Dao, the world's Heavenly Dao laws came under his control. 1 45
- Innate spiritual energy is primordial source energy remaining from the opening of heaven and earth; it is far purer than acquired spiritual energy. 3
- Great cultivators can trace karmic threads and deduce events occurring within the Heavenly Dao, unless a Sage conceals the heavenly secrets. 134
- The world once continuously absorbed chaotic qi and converted it into innate spiritual qi, allowing it to grow. Mount Buzhou's collapse later slowed this growth by more than thirty percent. 96
- The Human Race ultimately became the core of the world's Great Dao and a principal source of Heavenly Dao fortune. 97
Notable Regions
- Mount Buzhou — Formed from Pangu's spine and the original rooting place of the Primordial Gourd Vine. It is a major spiritual nexus and was later destroyed during the Wu–Demon Calamity. 1 60 96
- Kunlun Mountain — The source of the world's dragon veins and a spiritual sanctuary of the Three Pure Ones. Its natural restrictions admit only those with sufficient karmic affinity. 33
- Netherworld Blood Sea — A forbidden land formed from Pangu's navel; it gathers the world's filth and slaughter aura and serves as Ancestor Minghe's domain. 67
- Thirty-Three Heavens — The location of the Demon Heavenly Court and the region beyond which Hongjun's proclamations descend. 1 80
- Purple Cloud Palace — Hongjun's palace in the depths of chaos, where he expounds the Dao to qualified beings of the Primordial World. 1 71
History
Opening of Heaven and Earth
Pangu opened heaven and earth, leaving behind landmarks and origins that continued to shape the Primordial World. Mount Buzhou arose from his spine, while the Netherworld Blood Sea formed from his navel. 1 67
A wisp of creation qi that Pangu failed to cleave apart rooted itself in Mount Buzhou and became the Primordial Gourd Vine. This creation qi retained a trace of Pangu's bloodline. 45
Hongjun's Dao Lectures
After attaining the Dao and merging with it, Hongjun announced that he would expound the Great Dao at Purple Cloud Palace. His proclamation caused heavenly flowers to fall, golden lotuses to rise from the earth, and merit light and purple clouds to envelop the world. 1
During his second lecture, Hongjun taught three methods of pursuing Primordial Unity: attaining the Dao through strength, merit, or severing the Three Corpses. He also alluded to a fourth path—severing the Dao. 71
Xuan Yan's Transformation
The Primordial Gourd Vine successfully took form as Xuan Yan, becoming an innate sacred being. Its transformation manifested countless laws, including the Five Elements and Creation, and drew the attention of great cultivators across the world. 60
Heaven and earth instinctively celebrated Xuan Yan's birth, regarding the transformation of one of its greatest spiritual roots as a form of the world's completion. 60
Creation and Rise of Humanity
Guided by Yan Zhen, Nuwa created the Human Race from Nine Heavens Breath Soil and Three Luminaries Divine Water. She declared humanity the master of heaven and earth, completed her Dao, and became a Heavenly Dao Saint. 77
The newly created humans were physically weak and faced immediate danger from the world's many ferocious beasts and powerful races. Nine innate humans led the survivors to establish the Mother Goddess Tribe near Mount Buzhou. 78
Yan Zhen later became Cangjie among humanity, creating characters and the Five-Treasure Human Scripture. This allowed humans to preserve knowledge, inherit cultivation methods, and advance toward civilization. 79
Wu–Demon Calamity and Reincarnation
The Demon Clan and Wu Clan fought for dominion over the Primordial World. Their prolonged war devastated the land, shattered mountains and earth veins, and killed innumerable humans, demons, Wu, and other living beings. 71 85
The dead initially had no orderly destination: powerful beings might return to the Blood Sea, while weaker true spirits dispersed or became wandering souls. 76
In response to the catastrophe, Houtu transformed her ancestral Wu body into the Six Paths Reincarnation Wheel. Zhen Yuanzi's evil corpse became the Fengdu Emperor and evolved the Book of Life and Death and Judge's Brush, while Yan Zhen's good corpse established the River of Forgetfulness. Together, these acts created the order of life and death. 85
The Wu and Demon Clans eventually suffered mutual destruction. Neither race obtained the recognition of heaven and earth or the Heavenly Dao necessary to become the world's true ruler. 92
Era of Saints
Following humanity's recovery and expansion, Taiqing Laozi, Primordial Heavenly Venerable, and Tongtian Daoist respectively established the Human Religion, Expounding Sect, and Interception Sect. Jieyin and Zhunti established the Western Religion through forty-eight great vows. 97
The Heavenly Dao recognized six Saints, inaugurating an era in which Saints held enduring authority over the Primordial World. 97
Major Powers and Peoples
- Human Race — Created by Nuwa as a race capable of bearing the Heavenly Dao and comprehending its laws. Though physically weak at birth, humanity became the foundation of Saintly religions and the central race of the Primordial World. 77 97
- Wu Clan — Descendants of Pangu who prioritize physical strength and fleshly evolution. They once claimed the land of the Primordial World as their domain before their ruin in the Wu–Demon Calamity. 71 72 92
- Demon Clan — A coalition of myriad demons led by Dijun and Taiyi, which established the Demon Heavenly Court and contested the Wu Clan for world fortune. 71
- Heavenly Court — Reorganized by Haotian and Jade Pool after the Wu and Demon races' decline. Its laws provide lower-level cultivators protection from unchecked violence by stronger beings. 142 150
- Six Saints — Heaven-ordained beings whose religions and treasures suppress the fortune of their respective traditions and regions. 97
