History

Konoha was founded by Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha, who originally shared the goal of creating a place where their families could live safely. Hashirama became the First Hokage, followed by his brother Tobirama; Tobirama's disciple Hiruzen Sarutobi became Third Hokage, and Hiruzen's disciple's disciple Minato Namikaze became Fourth Hokage. Hiruzen resumed the office after Minato and Kushina died during the Nine-Tails Incident. 16 134

The village's relationship with its founding clans deteriorated severely. The Senju name was dissolved and its members merged into the general population; by the time Hashirama returned as a soul, Tsunade was believed to be the clan's sole remaining member. Konoha's leadership also kept the Uchiha compound under ANBU surveillance, while Root operatives were implicated in killing much of the Uchiha clan during its massacre. 18 61 79

Neji Hyūga's revenge against the Hyūga clan became another major internal crisis. When Neji transformed using the Three-Tails' power, A Luo maintained a barrier around the compound, preventing Konoha's forces from entering as Neji massacred the clan. The subsequent official investigation concluded that the Hyūga had transferred most of their assets and may have planned to betray the village. 153 154

Kumogakure's accusations over Matatabi gave Konoha's leadership an excuse to move against Otogakure. Believing that Sunagakure, Iwagakure, and Kirigakure would support it, Konoha designated Ino–Shika–Chō, Inuzuka, and Kurama forces as its vanguard, with ANBU, Root, and other clans assigned as support. 183

The invasion of Otogakure failed catastrophically. A Luo used Wood Release and a sealing array to trap the attacking force; wooden spikes and vines killed or captured the invading shinobi, after which the terrain was restored to conceal the battle. 191

Relationships

• Uchiha Clan — Co-founded Konoha alongside the Senju, but later suffered surveillance, exclusion, and massacre within the village. Izuna ultimately rejected Konoha's claim over the clan. 18 61 232
• Senju Clan — The other founding clan and the source of Konoha's first two Hokage; its name disappeared from public life, leaving Tsunade as its known surviving member. 16 79
• Otogakure — A rival village founded by Orochimaru. Konoha attempted to destroy it before the Chūnin Exams, but the invasion was annihilated. 183 191
• Kumogakure — Pressured Konoha over the Two-Tails and used the issue to encourage an attack on Otogakure. Its past abduction of Hinata also remained a source of tension. 152 183

Destruction

During the Chūnin Exams, Izuna Uchiha appeared publicly and denounced Konoha's claim over the Uchiha clan. After Konoha's ANBU attacked A Luo, Izuna erected a black-mist barrier around the village, trapping the conflict inside. 230 231

The ensuing battle devastated Konoha. Madara and Hashirama tore through the village while Itachi and Obito destroyed remaining structures; Hiruzen and Danzō fought amid the ruins, and Hiruzen ultimately used the Dead Demon Consuming Seal before dying. 235 237

Izuna declared Konoha finished and announced that the Uchiha clan would settle in the Land of Fields. Three years later, the former Five Great Shinobi Villages had become four, while the Land of Fire existed without its own shinobi village and paid additional fees when dealing with other villages. 237 254
