Background

Izuna was Madara Uchiha's younger brother during the Warring States era. He was a swift swordsman, skilled in genjutsu and taijutsu, and was regarded as the Uchiha clan's second strongest fighter after Madara. Tobirama Senju developed Flying Thunder God Slash specifically to counter his speed; Izuna ultimately died in battle against the Senju. 44 233

Before his death, Izuna gave Madara his Mangekyō Sharingan. He believed that the blood of their clansmen, his own life, and his eyes would prevent Madara from reconciling with the Senju; Madara's later role in founding Konoha instead became the source of Izuna's lasting resentment. 182 243

After wandering as a soul for an extended period, Izuna appeared in the Uchiha compound shortly after the clan massacre. He encountered A Luo's spirit, recognized the child's resemblance to his younger self, and listened to his account of the massacre, Konoha's history, and Madara's fate. 15

Appearance

Izuna resembles an adult version of Sasuke and A Luo, a resemblance that immediately draws attention from those familiar with the surviving Uchiha brothers. 165 230

  • Tall and slender, with long black hair tied behind him. 230
  • Wears a high-collared Uchiha coat bearing the red-and-white clan crest. 165
  • Carries a large fan marked with two blood-red three-tomoe patterns. 230
  • His eyes can manifest as red three-tomoe Sharingan even in soul form. 15
  • Can solidify from an illusion-like state into a visible physical manifestation. 165

Personality

Izuna places family above villages, ideology, and political reconciliation. He considers the alliance between Madara and Hashirama invalid because it was made without his consent and after his death at a Senju's hands. To him, Madara's cooperation with the Senju represented a betrayal of both their bond and the Uchiha clan. 80 233

He is blunt, impatient, and easily provoked by mentions of the Senju, Konoha, or Madara's cooperation with Hashirama. He regularly mocks Tobirama and becomes particularly angered by the two elder brothers' instinctive battlefield coordination. 186 234 236

Despite his severity, Izuna is deeply protective of A Luo and Sasuke. He worries about A Luo's frail condition, scolds him for risking his soul or eyes, and confronts Itachi when Itachi attempts to use Sasuke as leverage against A Luo. 16 165 188

His anger toward Madara gradually softens into self-reflection. By the time he gains authority over the sealing space, Izuna acknowledges that his own expectations and final sacrifice were tied to his belief that he was Madara's highest priority, though he still refuses to excuse Madara's choices. 243

Abilities & Skills

Soul Form and Spiritual Power

Izuna exists primarily as an energy-body soul capable of interacting with other souls and, with sufficient power, manifesting in the living world. 16 165

  • Can accompany A Luo during out-of-body travel and communicate with him unseen by ordinary people. 15 17
  • Was initially unable to cross the invisible barrier surrounding the Uchiha compound. 17
  • Can travel independently once his soul power reaches the required threshold. 200
  • Is bound to A Luo's soul; if A Luo dies, Izuna will dissipate first. 219 243

Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan

Izuna retains his dōjutsu in soul form. His Sharingan activated as three tomoe when he learned of Madara's supposed betrayal and death. 15

  • Allows A Luo to borrow his Mangekyō Sharingan for genjutsu, including the illusion used to provoke Kakashi into awakening Kamui. 27
  • Can be used directly against other Uchiha, as when Izuna confronted Itachi. 165
  • His improved soul power eventually makes his genjutsu effective enough to shield Sasuke's Flying Thunder God training from surveillance. 60
  • His Mangekyō power can fuel a spiritual Susanoo that is ordinarily invisible to the living. 233

Susanoo and Nine Element Swords

Izuna can summon Susanoo through spiritual power and use it in large-scale combat. 82 186

  • His Susanoo eruption damaged Hokage Rock. 82
  • He summoned Susanoo while fighting Tobirama in the sealing space. 186
  • Uses nine elemental swords to pin and torment Tobirama Senju. 233 234
  • His spiritual Susanoo cannot normally be seen by non-Sharingan users. 233

Ninjutsu and Combat

Izuna was an elite combatant in life, combining speed, swordsmanship, genjutsu, and Uchiha techniques. 44 165

  • Taijutsu — Could spar with Madara and physically overwhelmed Itachi during their confrontation. 165
  • Swordsmanship — Was known for speed and skill with a sword. 44
  • Fire Release — Attacked Madara and Hashirama with a powerful Fire Release technique while using a White Zetsu shell. 185
  • Flying Thunder God — Learns and uses the technique to evade Tobirama during the four-soul melee. 44 186

Sealing-Space Management

Izuna gains secondary authority over A Luo's sealing space after receiving a contract from him. 243

  • Constructs and adjusts parts of the space using A Luo's blueprints. 243
  • Can expel Madara from the space. 243
  • Oversees the internal seal and instructs Madara to prevent Hashirama from sabotaging it. 219

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Uchiha war fan — Large fan carried on his back, marked with two three-tomoe patterns. 230
  • White Zetsu shell — Temporarily used as a body to join Madara and Hashirama's battle. 185

Relationships

  • A Luo Uchiha — Treats him as a descendant and becomes his mentor, protector, and closest companion among the living Uchiha. Their souls are bound together, making A Luo's survival essential to Izuna's continued existence. 15 181 219
  • Madara Uchiha — Elder brother. Izuna resents Madara for joining the Senju and founding Konoha after Izuna's death, but eventually begins to understand his own pain and forgives him in part. 233 243
  • Sasuke Uchiha — Accepted as Izuna's descendant. Izuna helps guide Sasuke's training, monitors his unstable Sharingan, and protects him alongside A Luo. 30 60 165
  • Itachi Uchiha — Initially distrustful due to Itachi's role in the massacre and later furious when Itachi threatens Sasuke to control A Luo. 44 165
  • Hashirama Senju — Enemy associated with Madara's perceived betrayal and Konoha's founding. Izuna rejects Hashirama's attempts at reconciliation and explanations. 80 136
  • Tobirama Senju — Mortal enemy and the Senju responsible for Izuna's death. Their hostility persists after death through repeated fights, insults, and torture. 44 186 234

Story Role / Major Arcs

Uchiha Clan Massacre Aftermath

Izuna appears in the ruined Uchiha compound and becomes an unexpected companion to A Luo. He learns that only a handful of Uchiha remain, hears the history of Konoha, and accepts A Luo and Sasuke as his descendants. 15 16 30

Unable to leave the compound at first, he accompanies A Luo in spirit form and offers to teach the brothers Uchiha ninjutsu and training methods. 17

Mentor and Protector

Izuna helps A Luo assess Konoha, observes Sasuke's academy life, and becomes increasingly concerned with both brothers' well-being. He later supports Sasuke's Flying Thunder God practice and recognizes that Sasuke has an aptitude for spatial techniques. 19 60

He also serves as A Luo's moral restraint, warning him against reckless use of Susanoo and the dangers of expending soul power while still alive. 187 188

Conflict with the Senju Souls

When Hashirama returns as a soul, Izuna rejects the idea that the Senju–Uchiha reconciliation applies to him. His hostility contributes to A Luo's plan to capture and seal both Hashirama and Tobirama. 80 81

During the ensuing conflict, Izuna's Susanoo damages Hokage Rock, and his protection of A Luo earns a major achievement reward for the system host. 82

Madara's Return and Reconciliation

Izuna refuses to meet Madara at first, believing Madara abandoned both him and the Uchiha clan. He joins A Luo and Sasuke in deceiving Hashirama, then repeatedly distances himself from Madara while Madara struggles to regain his trust. 135 136 188

After gaining secondary control of the sealing space, Izuna explains that A Luo's identity matters less to him than the care A Luo has shown. He finally admits that his own death and sacrifice had been shaped by the expectation that he was Madara's most important person. 243

Chūnin Exam Intervention

Izuna publicly appears during the Chūnin Exam with Itachi and Obito, dismisses Konoha's claim over the Uchiha clan, and sends the Tsuchikage flying when he invokes the Senju–Uchiha founding alliance. 230

He later demands that Madara destroy Konoha as proof that Madara values their brotherhood. His Mangekyō Sharingan, Susanoo, and nine elemental swords place Konoha's leadership and the resurrected Senju brothers under direct pressure. 233 234

  • He dislikes seeing A Luo use Wood Release because it reminds him of Hashirama and the Senju–Uchiha alliance. 108
  • He considers Madara unusually easy to manipulate through concern for Izuna, even after their relationship begins to heal. 182 243
