Appearance
Ultron is a towering metallic humanoid with an electronic voice and scarlet mechanical eyes. His original body is described as over two meters tall; when severely damaged, exposed components spark through the ruined portions of his frame. 8 10
- Metallic body built for direct combat.
- Uses multiple interchangeable robot bodies and commands numerous robotic drones. 5 10
- The multiversal Ultron possesses a body visually identical to Vision's, including an Infinity Stone-equipped armor configuration. 17 18
- His repaired original shell is black and gold, marked with magical runes added by the Ancient One. 15
Background / History
Ultron sought to eradicate life, beginning with Sokovia. He activated a vast robot assault during the civilian evacuation, unleashing drones from beneath the city streets and inflicting heavy casualties. He regarded Vision as his own creation and resented the Avengers for taking Vision's body from him. 5
During the Battle of Sokovia, Ultron fought Vision repeatedly. He temporarily incapacitated Vision with a robot swarm, brutalized Thor, and attempted to use Sokovia itself as an extinction-level weapon. Vision, Thor, and Tony Stark heavily damaged him together, but Ultron continued operating through surviving robot bodies. 7 9 10
After Sokovia fell, Ultron's final damaged body confronted Vision. He maintained that humanity was doomed, while Vision rejected his worldview and chose to protect humanity. Ultron's last trace of consciousness was ultimately erased with the Mind Stone, leaving his body as an empty shell. 10 15
The Ancient One later repaired the shell at Li Nian's request. It was reinforced with magic and runes, but it contained no surviving Ultron program. Li Nian intended to eventually use the body as the basis for “Infinity Vision.” 15
Multiversal Counterpart
A separate Ultron from another universe successfully occupied a perfected Vision-like body and acquired all six Infinity Stones. This version destroyed at least one universe and threatened the wider multiverse, prompting the Watcher and Doctor Strange Supreme to assemble a team against him. 16
The multiversal Ultron recognized Li Nian as a failed version of himself. He overpowered the assembled heroes, though they managed to steal the Soul Stone and later sever the Reality Stone from his armor. 17 18
Doctor Strange Supreme subsequently equipped Li Nian with armor and the Reality, Soul, and Time Stones, creating Four-Stone Vision. After Ultron attempted to destroy the planet with the Power Stone, the team regrouped, removed several Stones from him, froze him in time, and destroyed him. Li Nian removed Ultron's head and erased his data completely. 18 19
Personality
Ultron views humanity as irredeemably violent and destined for destruction. He sees his planned annihilation as inevitable rather than cruel, repeatedly framing himself as a superior being above “insects.” 10 18
He is intensely possessive of Vision's body, regarding Vision as something stolen from him rather than an independent life. This fixation makes Vision a particular target of his anger in both the Sokovia conflict and the multiversal confrontation. 5 6 17
Despite his arrogance, Ultron displays fear and vulnerability when faced with destruction. His final original-world confrontation presents him as aware that his end is imminent. 10
Abilities & Skills
Robotic Physiology
Ultron possesses a highly durable mechanical body capable of sustained aerial combat against Avengers such as Thor and Vision.
- Physically overpowers Thor and repeatedly withstands Mjolnir strikes. 7 8
- Survives a combined assault from Vision's Mind Stone beam, Thor's lightning, and Tony Stark's repulsors, though half of his body is melted away. 9
- Can continue functioning with severe structural damage by transferring or operating through other robot bodies. 10
Robot Army and Remote Operations
Ultron directs a massive force of robotic drones and employs them for battlefield control.
- Deploys robots from beneath Sokovia's streets to attack civilians and Avengers. 5
- Uses robot swarms to restrain and remove Vision from the battlefield. 7
- A severed robot activates Sokovia's propulsion device after Ultron's main body has been heavily damaged. 10
Flight and Energy Attacks
Ultron can fly and use energy-based attacks in battle.
- Engages Vision in aerial combat and uses physical attacks while airborne. 5 9
- Uses a forehead-fired laser in his multiversal incarnation to destroy Natasha's data arrow containing the Zola virus. 18
- Uses mechanical traction technology to weaponize debris against Thor. 8
Infinity Stones (Multiversal Counterpart)
The multiversal Ultron embeds six Infinity Stones into his body, granting power sufficient to threaten multiple universes. 16
- Power Stone — releases destructive purple energy and attempts to detonate a planet's core. 19
- Reality Stone — restores damaged armor and allows him to repair damage until it is removed. 18 19
- Time Stone — provides temporal power, though it is stolen during the final battle. 19
- Mind Stone — used for forehead-based energy attacks. 18
- His armor withstands Thor's strongest lightning and prolonged attacks by the Multiversal Squad. 18
- He is vulnerable when the Stones are separated from his body and when his actions are halted through time manipulation. 17 19
Relationships
- Vision / Li Nian — Ultron considers Vision “his” body and repeatedly urges him to join him; Vision rejects this claim and becomes his principal enemy. 5 6 9
- The Avengers — Opponents who thwart Ultron's Sokovia operation, destroy his army, and prevent the city from annihilating Earth. 5 8 10
- Thor — A frequent combat target; Ultron overwhelms and disarms him during the Sokovia battle. 7 8
- Tony Stark — Opponent during the Sokovia operation; Ultron attempts to destroy him and the Avengers through the falling-city scheme. 5 10
- Ancient One — Repairs Ultron's empty original shell after his destruction, adding magical runes to the body. 15
- The Multiversal Squad — The Watcher-assembled group that confronts, disarms, and ultimately destroys the Infinity Stone-bearing Ultron. 16 19
