First Appearance Chapter 20

Background

Peter lives with his Aunt May and carries Uncle Ben's lesson—“With great power comes great responsibility”—as the foundation of his identity as Spider-Man. He considers May his remaining family and repeatedly puts himself at risk to protect her and other civilians 20 22.

Before Li Nian enters his universe, Peter loses his friendship with Harry Osborn, sees Mary Jane become engaged to another man, and suddenly loses his spider powers. Though he initially enjoys a normal life, he eventually realizes that abandoning Spider-Man means abandoning a part of himself 21 22.

Appearance

Peter is a slight young man who normally wears glasses when living as Peter Parker. As Spider-Man, he wears a red-and-blue bodysuit and conceals his identity behind a mask 21 27.

  • Lean, slight build 23
  • Wore “nerdy-looking” glasses while powerless 21
  • Red-and-blue Spider-Man suit 20 43
  • Briefly wore black clothing while recovering from symbiote exposure 41

Personality

Peter is compassionate, self-sacrificing, and deeply committed to saving people. He risks himself for Aunt May, attempts to stop a runaway train despite severe injuries, and still hopes to save Otto even after Otto becomes dangerous 20 25 26.

His empathy can become hesitation. Li Nian criticizes Peter for extending kindness to enemies who remain dangerous, while Peter continues to believe that Otto can be brought back to himself 26 27.

Peter also has an impulsive, immature side. He enjoys public admiration as Spider-Man, flirts with Gwen Stacy in front of a crowd, and fails to understand how deeply the incident hurts Mary Jane 32. Under guilt, anger, or symbiote influence, he can lose control completely 35 42.

Abilities & Skills

Spider Physiology

Peter possesses superhuman physical abilities as Spider-Man.

  • Superhuman strength sufficient to overpower or restrain opponents and endure extreme impacts 24 34
  • Exceptional agility and wall-crawling ability 22 38
  • Spider-Sense warns him of incoming danger, though Venom's speed can overwhelm it 23 38 39
  • Web-swinging and webbing manipulation for travel, rescue, and restraining a runaway train 20 25
  • Rapid recovery from injuries; he recovers from severe combat damage in days with assistance from the Regeneration Cradle 26 40 41

Heroic Rescue and Improvisation

Peter prioritizes civilians even when doing so gives enemies an advantage.

  • Attempts to save Aunt May while fighting Doctor Octopus 20
  • Coordinates with Li Nian to stop a derailing train and save its passengers 25
  • Joins Li Nian against evolving monsters threatening New York 30 31
  • Continues protecting people despite injuries from Harry, Eddie, and other superpowered enemies 34 39

Symbiote Exposure

Peter is corrupted by remnants of Venom after fighting the monster outbreaks and Eddie Brock.

  • Li Nian first removes Venom's influence from Peter using the Mind Stone after Peter lashes out over Harry's injuries 35
  • A remaining symbiote fragment reactivates while Peter is healed in the Regeneration Cradle 40
  • The symbiote enhances his physical condition, but threatens organ failure and shortens his lifespan during prolonged bonding 41
  • Under Harry's attack, Peter transforms into Venom and nearly kills his former friend before Li Nian intervenes 42
  • Eddie later absorbs the Venom from Peter's body, ending Peter's immediate symbiote possession 42

Power Loss and Restoration

Peter temporarily loses his spider powers after his personal life collapses and he rejects his role as Spider-Man 21. Li Nian uses the Mind Stone to create a dream involving Uncle Ben and Peter's deepest regrets, helping Peter reclaim his resolve; Peter's powers return the following morning 22.

  • Aunt May — Guardian and closest family member. Peter is devastated by threats to her safety and tries to keep his Spider-Man life from endangering her 20 21 35.

Doctor Octopus Crisis

Peter and Li Nian oppose Otto's attacks on Mary Jane, a runaway train, and the nuclear fusion device. Peter tries to save Otto rather than simply defeat him, and Otto ultimately helps avert the device's disaster after Li Nian clears his mind with the Mind Stone 24 25 26 27.

Conflicts with Sandman and Harry

Peter fights Flint Marko after Flint becomes Sandman, but his growing pride as a celebrated hero contributes to his conflict with Mary Jane after he kisses Gwen Stacy in public 32. Venom and the Brooklyn Bridge Battle

Peter becomes a target of Eddie Brock's Venom and is severely beaten before Li Nian, Otto, and Flint intervene 38 39. Residual symbiote influence later overwhelms Peter during Harry's betrayal, transforming him into Venom and nearly making him kill Harry 40 42. At the Brooklyn Bridge, Peter fights alongside Li Nian and Otto against Eddie, Flint, and Harry while still trying to reason with Harry 43.
