Su Nan and Feng Yang were neighbors, childhood friends, and classmates from kindergarten onward. Su Nan secretly loved Feng Yang. In the life remembered by Su Nan, he shielded Feng Yang during the haunted-house disaster, was left disfigured and crippled, received Feng Yang's promise of lifelong care, and later believed Feng Yang and Song Qingyao arranged his murder. 1 2 5

Reborn at the moment of the haunted-house fire, Su Nan attempted to kill Feng Yang in retaliation. The attempt failed when a falling prop cabinet crushed his legs. Feng Yang forced him to promise never to harm the Feng family, creating a ghost contract, then carried him out of the blaze.
