The enormous maze was constructed from twenty-foot-high hedges. The four Champions and Bagman stood before its entrance.
Professor McGonagall and the others would patrol outside the maze. She told the Champions, "If you run into trouble, fire a red signal into the air with your wands. We'll come and take you out."
The four nodded. McGonagall glanced at Bagman before leaving.
Bagman cleared his throat and amplified his voice. "Ladies and gentlemen, the third task—and the final event of this tournament—is about to begin."
"Before we begin, I will announce the Champions' current scores. In first place is Mr. Harry Potter. Second is Cedric Diggory. Both of them are from Hogwarts!"
Muya did not understand why he was deliberately stressing that point. If he wanted to stir up conflict among the three schools, then congratulations—he had succeeded.
