All the Basics
The next day, Lin Ye and Wang Dong'er went downstairs together, had dinner in the cafeteria, and then went to the classroom.
The morning classes, as usual, combined theory with practical application.
The teachers were explaining the circulation of Soul Power, the combination of Soul Skill, and teamwork on the platform. Lin Ye listened halfway, his mind occasionally wandering to what to write in his diary later.
In the practical training, he partnered with Wang Dong'er and practiced with Xiao Xiao twice. The others weren't grouped with him, but Lin Ye had seen the other girls' moves on the training field, and they were even more ruthless than before.
After afternoon classes, Lin Ye would usually go to the training ground for an extra hour of practice, then go back to his dormitory to take a shower and have dinner at the cafeteria.
In the evenings, I either cultivate in my dorm or browse the system interface to study what those rare materials can be used for.
This went on for about three or four days.
I haven't written anything particularly interesting in the past three or four days; it's mostly just everyday stuff, so naturally there haven't been any diary-related bonuses.
That evening, the Diary System suddenly popped up a settlement notification.
He opened his eyes and let his consciousness sink in.
[Ding, diary entries are being tallied.]
[Ding! Reward: Soul Power +2; Reward: Soul Ring Duration +1000 years.]
Lin Ye looked at the list of rewards, feeling nothing.
No critical hits were to be expected; critical hits are rare and hard to come by, especially since I didn't write anything important in my diary today, just some everyday stuff.
It was late at night, and the dormitory building was quiet, with only the occasional chirping of insects coming from outside the window.
Lin Ye stood up, stretched his legs, and walked to the window to look outside.
The moon hung in the sky, big and round, its silvery light spreading across the campus paths and casting long shadows of the trees on both sides.
He suddenly realized that he hadn't written about Huo Yuhao and Tang San for several days.
These two have practically become Lin Ye's source material, but he hasn't written anything about them for the past few days, and he feels like something's missing if he doesn't write anything for a few days.
But it's too late today, I'll write it tomorrow.
Lin Ye yawned, turned around, went back to bed, pulled the covers over himself, and fell asleep.
The next morning, Lin Ye went to the cafeteria for breakfast as usual.
There were more people in the cafeteria than usual today. It seems that the freshmen from the Outer Court are having some kind of event. They crowded into the cafeteria early in the morning, and the line stretched from the window to the door.
Lin Ye finally found a corner seat with her tray and sat down. She had just taken a bite of her steamed bun when someone sat down opposite her.
He looked up and saw Xiao Xiao.
Xiao Xiao changed her hairstyle today. Her originally loose hair was tied into two short braids, making her look much more playful.
She sat down with a bowl of soy milk and a small dish of side dishes, and her first words were, "Have you been slacking off these past few days? You haven't been to the training ground much."
Lin Ye took a bite of his steamed bun and mumbled, "I went. You weren't there."
Xiao Xiao snorted, clearly not believing it, but didn't press the matter, and continued drinking her soy milk.
The two were eating when Wu Feng arrived.
She didn't look well today; she had obvious dark circles under her eyes, as if she hadn't slept all night.
She slammed her plate on the table, slumped into her chair, and said weakly, "I overdid it last night; I almost couldn't get up."
Xiao Xiao teased her a couple of times, but Wu Feng, unusually, didn't retort. She just waved her hand, then picked up her bowl and started shoveling rice into her mouth, looking like she hadn't eaten for days.
Wang Dong'er and Ning Tian did not appear.
Lin Ye glanced towards the doorway subconsciously, but didn't see the two familiar figures.
They were probably all busy with their own things.
He looked away and continued eating his breakfast.
The cafeteria was bustling with noise as freshmen chattered about the upcoming activities. The cacophony of voices and the clatter of bowls and chopsticks created a lively atmosphere.
After the morning classes ended, Lin Ye went to the training ground.
There weren't many people at the training ground today. He practiced a set of close-quarters combat techniques on the wooden stakes, then went back to his dorm and took a shower.
The afternoon class was a theory class, and he sat in the back row for half the class before his mind started to wander.
The teacher was explaining the basic structure of Soul Tool. These things were so basic that for Lin Ye, it was like trying to figure out if 1+1 equals 2 – utterly boring.
During breaks, he leaned against the corridor railing, basking in the sun.
The warm sunlight streamed down, illuminating the entire corridor.
In the distance, a group of freshmen were running on the Playground. The sound of their neat footsteps and slogans drifted over, carrying with them the naivety of freshmen.
As Lin Ye watched, he suddenly realized that this kind of daily life was quite nice.
It's peaceful and routine, without Evil Soul Master, conspiracies, or those troublesome chains of cause and effect.
Unfortunately, this kind of life couldn't last long. He knew in his heart that the future was what it was, and he couldn't stay so leisurely forever.
After the afternoon classes ended, Lin Ye did not arrange any other activities.
On his way back to the dormitory, he passed through the college's small garden and saw Wang Dong'er sitting alone on a stone bench, as if she were cultivating.
Lin Ye didn't go over to disturb them and walked away quietly.
Back in his dorm, he washed his face, sat by the window for a while, and then glanced at the system interface. There was still some time before tonight's settlement.
He decided to use this time to think about what to write in his diary for tomorrow.
What should he write next? He still had plenty of material in his mind, enough to keep him writing for a long time.
But today he didn't want to touch on those heavy topics anymore.
Tomorrow I'll write something lighthearted, like the everyday fun at the Shrek Academy, or a funny moment from a competition.
The history of the Douluo Continent is not only filled with blood and fire, but also includes moments that are worth laughing at.
These fragments are also part of history, and often feel more real than those tragic, major events.
As darkness gradually fell, night crept in from the east, swallowing up the last rays of the sunset.
Lin Ye didn't turn on the lights, just sat in the dimly lit room, listening to the chirping of insects gradually rising outside the window.
A sentence popped into his head for no apparent reason; it was something he had read in a book in his past life: Life is not the days we have lived, but the days we have remembered.
Lin Ye smiled, feeling that the habit of writing a diary was somewhat similar to this statement.
Regardless of what the future holds, at least these ordinary daily moments have been recorded, even if only briefly.
As midnight approached, the system's settlement notification arrived as expected.
Lin Ye focused his consciousness and saw that there were only basic rewards for Soul Power Level and Soul Ring age, no critical hits, which was within his expectations.
Lin Ye turned over, ready to go to sleep.
The moon outside the window was still so bright, its silvery light seeping through the gaps in the curtains and drawing a thin white line on the floor.
"Squeak..."
The door opened with a deliberately slow sound, and then Lin Ye heard low footsteps passing by his bedside.
It must be Wang Dong'er who's back. No one else would come to his room at this time, and only Wang Dong'er has the key.
