Background / History

Tang San originated in another world’s Tang Sect, a millennium-old organization feared for hidden weapons and poisons. An orphan and outer sect disciple, he was barred from learning the inner sect’s core arts because he lacked the Tang family name. He secretly learned those arts, created the first Buddha’s Fury Lotus, and was pursued by sect elders for violating their rules. Cornered at Ghost’s Sorrow Cliff, he leapt from it and transmigrated to Douluo Continent carrying the Tang Sect’s inherited knowledge. 248 249 250

On Douluo Continent, Tang San possessed Twin Martial Souls—the Blue Silver Emperor and Clear Sky Hammer—and cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Skill from childhood. He entered Shrek Academy, where Yu Xiaogang guided his cultivation, later obtained Immortal Herbs from the Icefire Yin Yang Well, and received the Sea God inheritance. He became a Titled Douluo at age twenty-five. 263 286 287

His childhood Martial Soul awakening was performed free of charge by Martial Soul Hall's Su Yuntao in Holy Soul Village. Lin Ye highlights this when contrasting Martial Soul Hall's services to commoners with its later portrayal in the historical narrative surrounding Tang San. 286

He returned to Haotian Sect, passed the elders’ tests for recognition, and presented Tang Chen’s Haotian Token after restoring Tang Chen’s clarity in Slaughter City. Tang San subsequently brought the secluded sect back into the open and led its disciples against Martial Soul Hall at Jialing Pass. 254

During the Sea God Trial, Tang San killed the nearly million-year-old Deep Sea Demon Whale King and obtained its Soul Ring and Soul Bone. According to the Diary, the beast's remaining power also condensed into a lingering grudge and an evil divine consciousness, which became an early seed of the Holy Spirit Cult. 308

After ascending, Tang San became a God King with dual Godhoods. He left cultivation methods, secret arts, influence, and political connections to Shrek Academy, while the Tang Sect and Haotian Sect remained central parts of his mortal-world foundation. 240 241 246

The Diary alleges that he obtained the God Realm enforcer position by taking advantage of the reincarnation of two other God Kings, then secretly descended to arrange Huo Yuhao's and his daughter's fates. Personality

Tang San is publicly revered as the Sea God, the founder of the Tang Sect, and the savior who defeated Martial Soul Hall. His historical image emphasizes talent, resilience, loyalty, and his rise from Holy Soul Village through repeated life-or-death struggles. 44 263 265

Lin Ye’s Diary instead portrays him as meticulous, controlling, and willing to treat people, sects, and even family members as parts of a long-term plan. The Diary attributes a ten-thousand-year strategy to Tang San, with Shrek as an open instrument of influence, the Tang Sect as a concealed one, and Huo Yuhao as a key piece to be cultivated and restrained. 241 246 253 262

His treatment of participants in the Heaven-and-Earth Valley of Love Inquiry is portrayed as punitive and personally vindictive. Xu Sanshi receives three lashes for cursing and another ten after answering Tang San's questions, leading the Diary to characterize the trials as a prison in which obedience earns leniency and disrespect invites punishment. 154

Ning Tian and Lin Ye also criticize his goal-oriented reasoning: he pursues trials, victories, and Godhood while allowing others to bear the consequences. This criticism concerns responsibility for the aftermath of his choices rather than a claim that Tang San formally belonged to the Evil Soul Masters. 304 305 306

Despite condemning his character, the Diary and its readers acknowledge his strategic vision, perseverance, and ability to strengthen his own faction. The sect’s later dependence on incomplete techniques and Tang San’s reputation becomes a major source of disillusionment for Tang Ya and other readers of Lin Ye’s Diary. 24 249 250 251

The Diary states that Tang San withheld the most essential portions of the sect's inheritance before leaving. Its technological decline was compounded by the difficulty of manufacturing its strongest hidden weapons without his abilities and by the eventual superiority of Soul Guidance Technology. 24 251

Lin Ye further interprets Huo Yuhao's recruitment as a deliberate placement within the institution Tang San could control most completely. Tang Ya rejects this conception of the sect as the founder's private property, insisting that it belongs to its disciples and resolving to build an independent future. 252 253

Haotian Sect Revival

After returning to Haotian Sect and proving his legitimacy, Tang San revitalized the sect and led it back into the conflict with Martial Soul Hall. Later revelations depict the hidden sect as a potential reserve force intended to support or restrain Huo Yuhao. 254 257 260 262

After Tang San ascended with its strongest members, the remaining sect declined into complacency and again secluded itself for thousands of years. The Diary questions whether its isolation also preserved a hidden safety net for the Tang family's mortal inheritance, complementing the Tang Sect's activity in the outside world. This protective arrangement is presented as an interpretation rather than an openly confirmed policy. 255 257 258

Architect of Shrek’s Influence

Tang San’s post-ascension legacy makes Shrek Academy a continent-spanning power. He leaves behind secret arts, cultivation systems, political relationships, and prestige that bind Shrek’s prosperity to his name and influence. 240 241

His connections with the Heaven Dou Empire, Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Haotian Sect, Tang Sect, and Sea God Island form an enduring network around the academy. The Diary portrays these inheritances as both genuine advantages and instruments of dependence, making Shrek increasingly invested in revering him and preserving his legacy. 240 241

His distribution of Immortal Herbs similarly raises his companions while creating the foundation of a loyal divine faction. Even readers who condemn his motives acknowledge that he understood the importance of strengthening his allies and leaving resources and contingencies behind. 241 243

Manipulation of Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong'er

Tang San chooses Huo Yuhao as a future son-in-law and God of Emotions, then uses trials of death, separation, sacrifice, and forced rivalry to shape Huo Yuhao’s attachment to Wang Dong'er. The Diary frames these actions as an effort to ensure Huo Yuhao remains devoted, useful, and controllable. 132 134 137 139 140

The account of the Heaven-and-Earth Valley of Love Inquiry includes repeatedly destroying and restoring Huo Yuhao's body, forcing Wang Dong'er and Wang Qiuer into rivalry, and arranging Wang Dong'er's death as an emotional debt binding him to her. Tang San intends to revive her as Tang Wutong with her memories erased, while Wang Qiuer's eventual role remains sacrifice for Huo Yuhao. 134 160

The broader trials also impose Tang San's judgments on other relationships. Long-Term Control of Douluo Continent

Multiple Diary readers conclude that Tang San’s plans encompass the Tang Sect, Shrek Academy, Haotian Sect, Spirit Pagoda, Huo Yuhao, and the wider Soul Beast–Soul Master conflict. Gu Yuena identifies him as her central opponent after recognizing the scale of this alleged ten-thousand-year game. 246 253 262

The Diary additionally argues that Tang San treats the entire Douluo Star as his asset and prevents other gods from establishing inheritance sites there. Lin Ye uses this alleged restriction to explain the relative absence of divine inheritances in Huo Yuhao's era and the futility of the Holy Spirit Cult's ambitions against the divine power overseeing the planet. 315

His control is nevertheless challenged by developments outside his intended script. Wang Dong'er gains protection against his detection through the Diary Copy, rejects her assigned role, and resolves to turn the institutions meant to bind Huo Yuhao into resources for opposing her father. 121 253 262

Consequences of His Earlier Victories

Lin Ye’s Diary links Tang San’s destruction of Slaughter City, Martial Soul Hall, and the Angel God inheritance to the later expansion of Evil Soul Masters and the Holy Spirit Cult. The Diary further compares the Eight-Spider Lance’s devouring evolution to the power-acquisition logic of Evil Soul Masters. 302 303 304 305

The Diary's causal argument distinguishes several consequences: survivors escaping Slaughter City spread across the Two Great Empires; Martial Soul Hall's destruction dismantles its screening and suppression system; and the severing of the Angel God's inheritance removes a major source of sacred power capable of restraining evil cultivation. Lin Ye argues that Tang San could have contained the prisoners and preserved useful institutions rather than destroying them without adequate replacements. 303 304 305

The labels “progenitor of Evil Soul Masters” and “Holy Spirit Cult's hidden cult leader” are polemical descriptions of this alleged historical responsibility, not statements that Tang San literally founded or joined the cult. The Diary later identifies the Deep Sea Demon Whale King's residual hatred and evil divine consciousness after its death at Tang San's hands as another early seed of the organization. 305 306 308

Intervention in the Xu Yunhan Incident

The Diary recounts Tang San warning Ju Zi not to reveal that Xu Yunhan is Huo Yuhao's son, threatening both mother and child if she disobeys. Its account of his use of the infant as leverage destroys several readers' remaining belief that he would refrain from personally coercing mortals. 100 101 102

A later account revisits the military confrontation: after Huo Yuhao abducts Xu Yunhan while rescuing Dai Hao and Ju Zi publicly reveals the child's parentage, Tang San personally orders her to withdraw her forces, return occupied lands, and rename the Sun Moon Empire the Heaven Dou Empire. Lin Ye emphasizes that this interference contradicts the God Realm's prohibition on meddling in lower-realm affairs and interprets it as an attempt to suppress the parentage scandal rather than impartially maintain order. 340

Control After Huo Yuhao's Ascension

Later Diary entries reject the appearance of Huo Yuhao's ascension as an uncomplicated happy ending. They describe Tang Wutong's intimacy with her husband as subject to Tang San's restrictions and permission, while Huo Yun'er's controlled soul and the circumstances of the family's reunion create additional pressure on Huo Yuhao. 213 332 369 370

Lin Ye interprets Huo Yuhao's change of surname to Dai as a political measure that places the God of Emotions within Dai Mubai's lineage and, through him, Tang San's faction. He also theorizes that Tang San initially kept Tang Wutong away from Huo Yuhao so she could not interfere before these arrangements were established. 371

This analysis also raises the possibility that Huo Yuhao's compliance is strategic rather than wholehearted. Challenging Tang San would require allies in a God Realm where Tang San's influence is deeply entrenched; Rong Nianbing and Dai Mubai are suggested as possible, but uncertain, sources of support. These remain Lin Ye's interpretations of the future described in the Diary. 370 371
